Hi all - just been reading quite a few threads on ground clearance and lowering. Most if not all were either US or EU focused that I could find.

My question is 3 fold:

For those of you in Oz that have lowered your cars ~1" have you had issues with our roads, speed bumps, kerbs etc more so than standard? I'm in NSW.

Secondly, for standard alignment specs, did you have to get aftermarket camber bolts. I only just found out about the existence of said bolts and have Steeda Progressives arriving this week. :headbonk: So really hoping I don't need those bolts.

Thirdly - Is it a requirement to notify your insurer and was there any impact upon your premiums?

Thanks for your feedback.

Are you running stock rims and tyres? We have some super knowledgable people in here who will be able to help.

I'm not about to jump on the "super-knowledgable" band wagon but I can share this...
I lowered my car 35mm all round.
Ground clearance to the absolute lowest point is ever-so-slightly under the 100mm rule.
Front camber went to -1.7 degrees, rear went -1.9
Both of those stats are within Fords specs for the PP car.
I haven't scraped anything at all so far but YMMV.
You'll get the rear camber a little more upright on the factory adjustment if that's what you want to do. Depends what you want really. I actually dialled a little extra into the car.
There was a rumour that there is a small range of adjustment on the fron, but I've yet to see evidence of it. Again, you probably don't want to change it anyways.

Yup stock GT wheel and tyres.

Cool thanks guys!

Anyone done ferry crossings on their standard and lowered cars?

E.g Spirit of Tasmania or Mornington Peninsula? Or the ferry crossings in NSW?

I was going to ask a similar question about camber settings and tyre wear, gotta do alot of sifting to find any info in the main section.

How is your tyre wear going Burkey is it pretty even front and back and how far did you end up going with the rear camber? Mine went straight to 2.2 degrees in the rear and the tyre shop left it and only adjusted toe. I'm worried about uneven tyre wear and want to dial it back a little bit but then I'm also worried about guard clearance.

I used whiteline camber bolts in the front and jagged setting it up at 1.4 degrees when I put it together and the tyre shop also left it, haven't had any guard clearance issues running 265/35 20. Don't know if I can trust using the camber bolts as they are seriously thin compared to what came out, if tyre wear on the front is OK without adjusting the camber I might just throw the normal bolts back in.

Funnily enough, I pushed my rear camber to -2.2 on the expectation that my new wheels (Project 6GR) would need it for clearance. The wheels haven't arrived yet, so I can't make any comment on that aspect as yet.
Tyre wear:
Rear - The insides are wearing more than the outside as expected. I can't give any real-world "normal user" type info here cos my tyres are virtually shagged post track day/skid pan.
5000kms, rears are almost dead.

Front - I'm not noticing anything unusual in the tyre wear. I will say that a car intended for track use could probably use a little extra negative camber though. Even at 38 psi cold, the tyre tuck on the fronts is pretty crazy. The tyres are scuffed all the way to the end of the tread on the outside of the tyre sidewall. Yes, the sidewall..

When I finish my Accuair setup I'll let you know a range of settings at different heights. I'll prob run 70-80mm down most of the time, depending on what wheels I get also.

I've done sportlines which drop about 40mm all round.

Initially my rear camber was -2 and -2.5 however there is some adjustment in the rear, when you un do the top arm bolt there is a slot which allows movement. I pulled mine right out and now Im on -1.05 in the rear on both sides which is perfect. I machined my wheels in 6mm which then gave me enough clearance with the guard for the straighter camber.

My fronts are -1.5 and -1.3 and thats how the car settled, they adjusted the toe for me to compensate for that.

Super happy!

Just reading through thought I would repost this for some of the guys who may have missed it in other forums or on the facebook sites. This actually highlights where the rear camber adjustment is located on our cars. I have had and still have so many alignment shops who are not aware that there is camber adjustment on the rear end. It is hidden behind the nut of the bolt but you will see it once the nut is removed. Hope this helps. Any questions give me a call on 03 9553 6915 or email [email protected] Cheers Fred
