I have been working on converting my 2019 Premium Convertible's "9 Speaker" amp to the "12 Speaker" configuration. I purchased a used Shaker System DSP/Amp (3/21/2018 Date Code). I checked with ford parts and it is the correct part number (engineering code) for the Shaker System and is NOT the BO amplifier.
I installed New speakers, Forscan codes programmed (EQ Curve removal), and replacement amp installed; All with success. I am much happier with the sound stage.
My last task is the sub-woofer installation. I found a powered sub that I am happy with (a spare tire mounted unit). Currently i am utilizing the speaker level input fed from the front woofers. Sub is working, however, I am not 100% happy with quality. I can hear slight clipping and I am concerned output on those door speakers has a low cut applied.
Tonight, I tried to pull the sub-woofer source from the factory output pins on the molex connector (pin 1,+ and 2, - on gray connector on DSP). I had to add said pins in the female connector. A diagram I had found here (from Ford) said that pin 3 was a shield however that pin had a constant 5.5 to 6 volt signal coming through. Upon some research I saw a different diagram that said that pin was for what I believe a digital signal. I took the signal from pins 1 and 2 and heard signal through sub.
All went well and I had a clean signal, however, there was a very high reduction in available volume of the input signal.
Any advice from anyone who has completed this transition?
Did I purchase the wrong AMP / DSP?
Did you too have a low signal or did I possible use the incorrect pins?
Thank you.
