Yeah, at 6'1" tall it wasn't the easiest thing to get at, and if you're clumsy you could break the cheap plastic retainer thing (that someone sells an aluminum replacement for), but if you're careful it's 10min, plus the cost of 1/2 tank of gas, for something that you can always just swap back. I threw my OEM spring in the garbage after 1 day with the new one.
Ill order the replacement retainers ahead of time haha

Just FYI - It's fully drivable with no spring, just not recommended long term. It just holds the pedal up, and off of the cylinder or whatever it's called.. so I'd wait till you break it before buying one, unless you don't care, or shipping costs etc make sense. Like most parts on this car... the cheap OEM retainer is fine... as long as you don't snap it ;)

I have the bad habit and luck of always snapping plastic things.

Four takeaways I've got from this thread so far...

1) I've realized more than ever that the mood this car puts me in is the real reason I drive it... I suppose that's my driving "goal". I have a great office job, and arrive each morning in either a VW, Mercedes, or Mustang... and in the past I've arrived in a Dodge Ram, BMW, Acura, etc. Although a more refined vehicle can sometimes feels more sophisticated, mature, responsible, whatever... the mustang is just fun, and for me it sets a noticeable tone for the rest of my day. Seems like an obvious revelation, but I had never thought of it that clearly defined before.

2 & 3) I'm taking BmacIL's advice, and swapping out my Steeda mounts with higher rear shock mounts, and swapping in Steeda's roll center correction front lateral links. Have researched both suggestions, and expect them to be a good value in the areas I prioritize.

4) After bolting on #2&3, along with my lighter/fatter summer wheels, an alignment, and a few months of summer driving... I'll be test driving the GT350, and see if it begs to be my next car :)

Firm-ish... always open to learn more ;)

I'll pull on that thread....
I've disliked Pzero's, and Sumitomo HTR ZIII, was ok with the Coopers that came on my 08" Roush, and Blizzak's are great for what I use them for. Have been loving my Super Sports on this car/setup, but they'll need replacing by mid-summer. I was leaning towards trying Cup 2's for the first time, but open to other suggestions :)

I currently have the A/S 3+ on mine. Ive no idea when they were put on, but they seem in good condition and tread looks fine to me.

I dont really wanna drop a bunch of money on new wheels AND tires for them for the summer, but it does seem convenient to switch them together rather than swapping tires on one set of wheels.

If I was going to get some, I was looking at the 4s from Michelin, or NITTO. See a lot of Mustang guys with NITTO.

Sounds like a great deal for others that might be reading, but I keep snow tires on my 19" PP rims. Wouldn't expect those from Florida to necessarily understand ;)

I feel us car owners get the two confused at times..
So which is it?

  1. raise (something) to a higher standard, in particular improve (equipment or machinery) by adding or replacing components.

"working class opposition to the tax has led to some modification of this stance"
    • a change made.
      plural noun: modifications

An upgrade can be a modification but a modification is not always an upgrade.

I would suggest it's a combination of both... which is why these things are difficult to define.

"upgrades" of any kind can be very subjective, and most would fall, at least partially under the "modifications" column as well.

Agree.. I tend to see it as unless your building a car to compete/perform at the professional level like IMSA, GT, Lemans etc.. Then it's a modification for the average street joe..

Even then, a modification could entail upgrading a component (i.e. adding a supercharger for more power), to the detriment of balance and weight reduction, and decrease handling. Has that car really been "upgraded"?
