Hello. Going to test drive a ‘16 V6 6 spd manual convertible. It has 100,000 miles and they’re asking 16k. I was wondering what I should look for or common problems. I Know how to drive a manual, but have never owned one. Clutch wear is my biggest concern.

Adam

thanks!

V-6 verts with manual transmissions are rather rare.

Since you have 100K miles on it, After checking the clutch, you may want the radiator fluid changed (typically 150,000 miles max) and the manual transmission fluid. Check plugs & replace, check belts & replace if needed. Check condition of engine oil and look for service history.

Change out cabin filter (possibly never changed) and air filter.

One of the biggest failure points of the 15-17 S550 cars is/was the A/C evaporator. You really need to find out if it's ever been changed out. It's a dash out repair and quite expensive.
Back in the day we'd do a quick and dirty check of the clutch by putting the car in 2nd or 3rd and, with your foot firmly on the brake, let the clutch out and feel for slipping. Ideally the engine will bog and die fairly quickly. If you've got someone with you who knows something about cars it's also a decent way to evaluate motor/ trans mounts and can help ID any odd driveline noises.

Try your best to find out if the car has been tuned. There seems to be a trend in which some of the previous owners of tuned cars are keeping the tuners and screwing over the next owner, who gets stuck with a car that the have no idea what tune is in the car, let alone which tuning device was used.

it seams these cars had the evaps fail early. The car im considering is an auction car with no records and has 100,000 miles. Seams that the odds are that it was replaced already or that particular evap is fine? Who knows.

Is this a Ford dealer selling this car, an independent, or private party?
Ask for a carfax. Sometimes you may find what you're looking for on it.
If you gotta a friend at a Ford dealership, they could run an oasis report.
Get an Autocheck too if you can.

I'd be suspect of an auction car. Good luck.
