OK confirmed. I missed some. X is clearly a valid magic digit before the L.
OK confirmed thanks. Seems like there are 11 magic digits - 0-9 and X. It's interesting, the first 30 VINs show up as "Canceled" and now that I have the X search added, they're a complete list.

Stand by for corrected data. Thanks for the help folks!

Oh interesting. Well I may still have work to do then. The first 8 digits should always be the same - 1FA6P8JZ - corresponds to the model. Maybe the "unique digit" can be a A-Z as well as 0-9. I assumed it was just the latter.
Based on my experience the 9th digit in the VIN which is called the "Check Digit" has always been a number from memory and not a letter but never say never.

That was my assumption too, but X clearly seems to have been used for some reason

Interesting. This one doesn't show up either at https://trackmymustang.com/checkvin?vin=1FA6P8JZXL5550501. I guess we can therefore conclude that the data about the cars produced is not reliable. The data about the cars to be produced is likely more reliable.

Am I missing how this method qualifies an R? I have an X vin and it’s a heritage but a base gt350 and in my possession so definitely produced.

I only got data on the R models, 1/11 of which will have the X VIN. I know they're Rs because of the data I got back from trackmymustang.com. There'll be lots of other mustangs with the X in the VIN. Hope that's clear :)

So you are doing a scripted search on the VIN then manually choosing the R’s?

Does anyone have information on the ford api referenced by trackmymustang? Something could be built against that to look up anything if it provides all the data elements we think it does.

I should have added I found a number of published API’s around navigation and car assist. But not inventory or production search.

No I just polled it using curl in a loop and ignored any response body that didn't include GT350R. You can parse a lot of data out of the response.

Got it so looping through the expected VIN range then grabbing gt350r.

are you going against the ford api referenced by the trackmymustsng site? I wonder if we could pull down the full response from that and be able to apply this logic across everything. Depending on how much data is there we could have things like 2019 prod numbers before they are published and have confidence in the data. :)
