Sorry for the bad images lol

What is the max tint your allowed to go to in the Uk on these lights? Are the American tints for the Mustang legal in the Uk?

Also what does the light above the fog light do now? It was a turn signal for the US but is it just a DRL for us?

the light above the foglight is a DRL and turn signal in both the US and uk, they have 2 bulbs in each side 1 for the day runners and one for the signal, diode dynamics have some nice Switch back LED bulbs to make them look better.

as for tints im not certain, but i believe the rear lights have to maintain their reflective properties. im not sure about the front

- diode dynamics switchbacks.

If you mean the light above the fog light unit then its the turn signal and side/parking light. The DRL is integrated into the fog unit.

For tints, my belief is that you can do the rears but as Sam says the reflectors must still reflect, but no tint is allowed on the front. Plenty of people do tint their fronts however and i'm toying with the idea of a light tint all round. I already have the tints from the Anchor Room; just deciding whether to fit them.

The ones you've circled on the rear aren't lights at all on UK cars, well, apart from the one in the middle which on US cars is just a reverse lamp, on ours it's a reverse and fog.

The ones to the side of that & the ones on the actual side of the car are just reflectors on the UK cars. In the US they're all red, on ours I believe the rears are red and the side ones amber, which is why I'm ordering some red side markers from the US & hopefully the wiring is present on our UK cars to make them light up (on US cars the side ones ARE actual lights as opposed to ours which are just reflectors).

Thanks guys!

The only ones I would like to tint would be the fog lights, turn signals above the fogs and the Reverse light at the back,

What tiny could I get away with? What's the Legal limit? Put a fly eye kit on them?

I don't know about lights, but for windows there is a definite, measurable limit.

No idea about how they would measure this on lights but I would guess if they LOOK too dark to the following policeman, then you're going to get a pull.

i think your best bet would be to look for some uk legal tint kits for other cars, that will give you an idea of leagal tints

IMO, tinting headlights is foolish, after seeing the rear lights in the flesh, they're not that bad, I'm leaning to not doing it, the stupid yellow side reflectors on the other hand....

I'll be swapping out some of the bulbs, reversing light, front side lights, but that'll be about it. Unless a relatively inexpensive UK fix comes on the market, I'll not be doing the front lights or rears.

I do tend to agree on the headlights. As well as the full tint kit I also ordered the partial headlight tint that just covers the orange reflector on the outside edge. May go with that, may go with neither.

The rear lights are ridiculously bright in every video/photo i've seen so I don't see any problems with tinting them, though they do look pretty good stock on most colours of car.

I don't want to tint the headlights or taillights! They're beautiful!

Just want to tint the Fog Light (Front), Reverse Light and Fog Light (Rear) and whatever those lights are just above the fog lights lol

For window tinting all is explained at the below VOSA link... In the past with the cars that i have had tinted windows on, i always run a copy off and put in the glove box, just in case of some awkward cop with a BIG ego pull me over..

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...ent_data/file/245217/tinted-windows-guide.pdf
So the legal requirement is that the windscreen must allow 75% of light and front side windows must allow 70% of light.

If a tint or extra tint is to be applied to the Mustang front side windows then do these windows have any tint to start with and what percentage of light is the tint allowing through and how much extra tint can be applied to be within the 70% limit and how can the result be tested/proved?

Window glass as standard will only let through about 85% of light so you'd struggle to add any tint and stay legal. Doesn't stop some folk however and a lot of them get away with it unless they go stupid dark.

I retract this post, i have checked the lights on one at work, Indicator is on the outside, and sidelight on the inside (reversed from us spec) meaning the diode dynamics switchbacks DO NOT fit, as they are a different bulb for the indicator.

as for the DRL it is lacated in the bottom of the foglight housing.

so you would be tinting the indicator and side light only.
