I just wanted to share my experience with them. I don't know if they are good or bad, but they are very misleading. I was looking for an new insurance company because I think AllState is charging me too much. So I got quotes from a number of companies and Liberty Mutual gave me a good rate and all the coverage I wanted. So, I signed up. But before I made the first payment I found out a few things I did not like:

1. The rate they quoted me was an introductory rate, good for 1 year.

2. The quote assumed I would include homeowners, even though I specifically said no homeowners.

3. The rate assumed I would sign up for their safe driver app that monitors your driving through your smart phone. I specifically said no to that up front... I'm hearing impaired so I don't have a smart phone.

4. The rate assumes I will pay online. I told them up front I pay by check every 6 months.

I told them to forget it. Maybe I'll try again in a year if you give me an honest quote.

Hard to find honest people these days. It’s all about the dollar and how quickly it can leave ones pocket.

Try Progressive, perhaps.

I got such a great rate from Geico I couldn’t say no. Literally no one else can come close.

Hagerty is a great insurance company if you’re into a bit bigger price but absolute top notch service.

I did get rates from Progressive and Geico. Liberty was lower, but I didn't know it was a misleading quote. I did not have time to get back to those others to see if they were honest quotes or the same crap I got from Liberty Mutual. So, I resigned with AllState. I still think I'm paying too much, but I've never had a problem with them in 50 years.

Unfortunately most do some type of bait and switch. I’m with Geico for most of my vehicles. When I was adding my new 500(temporarily) they went to state what was covered and they attempted to add an extended warranty(new car, lmao) to the quote. It’s not the first time. I’m sure many fall for it not noticing it at first. Its bs for sure. I’m not the least surprised though being there owned by berkshire.

FWIW, I've struggled with this topic. It's frustrating, attempting to compare. While the policies and pricing can be somewhat straightforward, you then have to go out and do two more comparisons: 1) do they pay out when something happens?, 2) how bad is their customer service?

Even more frustrating is finding a good company, one that hits all the marks, and then discover they don't write policies in your state. :headbang:

Liberty told me that they could beat my current rate. And they did ....... BUT only by increasing my deductibles, removing some of the options I have now (like car rental for an accident). Once I added those options back in, and my current deductibles, they were more expensive.

My wife and I are old and we drive about 6k miles a year between us. We have not had any violations or claims in about 20 years. You would think our age and limited driving would be worth a decent discount. But, I'm not finding that to be true.

My brother is retired from State Farm. He told me once that the insurance business is legalized racketeering. When you think about it that is quite true.

However, it is just one of the necessary evils in our lives. Unless you are fortunate enough to be in a position financially that you can absorb a big hit and pay it out of pocket. And hooray for you if you can.

I worked for several insurance companies in the past. Life insurance is even a bigger racket than car insurance.
