Good Afternoon everyone. So this evening I was cleaning my leather seats when all of a sudden they started to turn this dark brown color. Thinking it was something on my cloth I got a clean one and stared rubbing again. This just made things worse. It looks like the leather dye has been completely removed. I was using Lexol Leather Cleaner when this happen. The car has less then 8000 miles. Going to take it into Ford tomorrow. Has anyone had this issue before?

Looks like the Lexol Leather Cleaner isn't compatible with the coatings applied to the leather in the Mustang.

Per the owner's manual, the only recommended cleaner is Motorcraft Premium Leather and Vinyl Cleaner (ZC-56). The Owner's Manual also includes the following:

Do not use the following products as these
may damage the leather:
• Oil and petroleum or silicone-based
leather conditioners.
• Household cleaners.
• Alcohol solutions.
• Solvents or cleaners intended
specifically for rubber, vinyl and
plastics.

Any update on this?
Took it into Ford yesterday. They took pictures and documented it. Waiting to hear back to see if warranty will cover this. All the service reps said it should be covered though. We'll see...

Looks like the leather cleaner reacted with the vinyl and melted it.

What's odd is that I've used this cleaner on the seats before with no problems. The area where it peeled seemed to be where my leg would rub and stretch the leather. The leather eventually had a nice crease in it and I guess it eventually wore through the dye.

So Ford denied my warranty claim. I'm going to have to get this fixed on my own. Seems a little ridiculous that the leather is in this condition at only 6500 miles. I expected better from Ford considering my 7 year old Hyundai leather never had an issues like this.

From what I've read in this thread it seems there is a chance the problem is defective cleaner. I can vaguely recall some old threads about some Audi seats being ruined by some leather care product and I think it was this same well known brand. IIRC that company eventually agreed to pay for new leather and then later refused to pay 100%.

So I can understand Ford not wanting to pay for damage caused by some leather care.

I'd sick them on each other. Tell Ford and the leather product that one or the other of you sold me a defective product; you two can decide who's reimbursing me.

You could have just got a bad batch of it. Some guy pouring battery acid into the vat instead of leather softener or something.

Kinda glad i got cloth now, i had a 06 gt premium, with tan leather and the seats in it were still like brand new! Are these new seats not leather? This isnt cool.

I'd be unhappy with the rippling effect at 6500 miles.
