If anyone is looking for an LE on the west coast and wouldn't mind taking a trip to Hawaii, my dealer (Cutter Ford) has LE #477 in Wimbledon White. They're asking $19,995 over MSRP but I think you could talk them down.

It grinds my gears too. But I got flamed by a member on here talking about that so I'll keep my mouth shut on that.

That car is going to stay on the island - I have to think the shipping back to the mainland would be an ADM unto itself.

ADMs suck but I paid one anyway cuz I wanted the car. Call me what you will but 4 out of the 8 dealers I could find that knew what I was talking about in May were auctioning them off, 1 was keeping it for himself, 2 were not getting an allocation, and the last was charging an ADM to the first guy with a deposit, so I wrote him a check for my deposit.

HrsePwr,

I faced the same situation. I went to a dealer who my family and I have purchased cars previously, my 07 Mustang and my mom's 08 Explorer. Off the bat they wanted $20k ADM with no negotiation. Well guess what, they still have their car listed as for sale on their website.

I shopped around a bit, and most said they were not getting allocations, or their car was already spoken for. Then I found the winner, went out of state and found a dealer asking for less than half the $20k in ADM, and gave them a deposit on the spot.

As much as I love Mustangs, and cherish the historical value of owning an LE, I could never justify $66k + taxes and fees for no extra hp. In that price range I would get a Vette.

I assume we paid roughly the same ADM, and I"m happy with my purchase, but like you said, any higher and I wouldv'e bought a Shelby GT350R in Liquid Blue. actually, now that I think about it - anyone want to buy a slightly used LE?

Yeah, but that's rather typical for HI where even Fiestas can carry ADMs. Due to the limited geography of island markets which can't necessarily be served efficiently by operating a store on an adjacent market, some of the operating economics quickly can become untenable.

As far as Hawaiian LE's, a surprising number exist given the relative market size.

HONOLULU - HONOLULU: 798
ORCHID ISLE - HILO: 41, 1872
VALLEY ISLE - KAHULUI: 1876

At Honolulu Ford today the 2015 Mustangs had $7995 ADMs on it and a Fiesta i parked next to had a $2995 ADM on it, plus some other stuff. Made that $15k MSRP turn into a $20k sticker.

I guess thats the "price for living in hawaii"

Without getting political, they are only a small part of the problem.

Bah! An aversion to "getting political" is one reason why things have gotten as bad as they are in general nowadays. I'm pretty much ready to have at it once my morning caffeine fix takes hold. LOL

That said, I hear you. I have immediate family who are thirty year residents and definitely understand the MANY different universes that occupy such a small area.

Ive lived here all my life and I've seen this place change dramatically. The current atmosphere here is limiting my personal development so I'm looking to move to the mainland soon.

That really sucks. Sorry to hear that. You're not a Robinson, are you? :)

I've seen it change dramatically too - almost from one year to the next. Hopefully you can keep a base there while also enjoying all the benefits and possibilities of not needing a five-hour flight for lots of things. I've always wondered, whenever Valley Isle Motors has ended up with a GT500, especially given fuel prices and the steep ADM, exactly where could obe drive it that would make 662HP worth having?

Having been born in Chicago and lived in New Jersey for an eternity, I'm no stranger to jacked up local politics. But Hawaii plays in a whole different league which, if nothing else, is fascinating. I just can't believe how much the simple existence of a Costco and Home Depot have changed some of the basic economics so dramatically.

Good luck!
