Ok, I got the metal cover in today. I'll post pictures in a bit. First notes:

The pins on the metal cover are MUCH more snug. I recommend working the cover back and forth a few times to wear down the plastic ring a bit.

The "Polished Grey Steel" looks more like a dirty bronze. I'll take a brillo pad to it to clean it up and report back.

The text engraving looks fantastic. Super legible and clear.

That's great to hear that the metal engraving came out great! Please post pictures! And yes it appears as though the metal printing process makes the pins slightly larger then they should be. I suggest taking a slightly larger drill bit and clean out the base holes.

Love the design. Hate the material. If it were all plastic or smooth finish black metal I would pay about $35-40 for one.

 Unfortunately I think that's one of the limitations of using Shapeways. But for lo-volume home-brew stuff, it's pretty awesome to have the option. You could always apply your own paint finish as well.

You are absolutely correct. I am limited by what shapeways can do and it is to much of a low volume product to merit more expensive production methods. The smoothest finish you will have will be with the frosted detail plastic option. It will be transparent and smooth which will allow you to paint it with your own color choice.

If it's chrome, I'm in! It'll blend in perfectly

Edit: For GT anyways lol.

I'm intrigued. Of course I would have to ask, is this being tested against non-premium and premium dash units?

Will be tested and compatible with both. The premium and base have the same dimensions in this area so it should be a one size fits all.
