Kudos to Steeda

Took delivery of my new 2019 Bullitt in May 2020 (traded a 2014 Z51 C7 Vette that I had since new for 6 years). Have loved the Bullitt since day 1, but wanted to improve the shifter because I plan on keeping/driving it for at least 6 years. Early on I changed to the Steeda clutch spring and perch and that improved the mushy guess feel of the clutch. After months of reading this forum and on line reviews I decided on the Steeda short throw Tri Ax Race shifter and planned my trip to Valdosta for installation this past Monday. While there I also got jacking rails, heavy duty braided clutch line, upgrade master cylinder supply line and billet reverse lockout collar. The feel of the shifter and clutch (I think due to working air out of the line) was so different that it took a few days to get accustomed to it. But WOW, now that I am this car is so much fun to drive and by far the best shifting MT car I have ever owned.

All of the people at Steeda that I dealt with on the phone and at the shop were great, especially Matt and Jamie who really took care of me and my car while I was there. I highly recommend the Tri Ax Race shifter and Steeda's installation services. A huge upgrade for a very reasonable price.

How much was the bill for parts and labor if you don't mind me asking? I don't want to do the incremental changes, but would do all the upgrades at once like you did.

Thanks, not to bad actually. I can't spend a day on my back like I did when younger. It's the getting up from off the creeper to get the tool I forgot a 100 times that kills me.

I got the Steeda Tri-Ax short throw immediately after it was released a few years ago and haven't had any issues. (Along with the many other Steeda products I have). I wanted to do the trip to their Florida location to get a sh*t load of parts installed at once a few years back and feel what it's like to be warm outside in the winter for a few days. I ended up doing most of the work myself, and a trusted shop near by. No problems with anything, ever.

The Tri Ax Race Shifter is a very nice addition. I installed one in my 2019:Bullitt several months ago. I also have their billet aluminum shifter collar too, but haven’t installed it. I attempted to, but when I cut the threads on the vinyl shifter boot to allow it to pass through, they unraveled more than needed and the install was botched. I had to buy a new factory vinyl boot, so the billet collar sits in my drawer for now.

OP, how‘s the interior noise level in your car after the install? Did Steeda have to cut your inner rubber boot, in order to install it over the Tri Ax shifter base, or did they install an earlier model boot on it? When I installed mine, I discovered that the Bullitt inner boots are one piece, whereas earlier models were a two piece design.

I don’t know about the boot. I didn’t know to ask and the tech didn’t say anything about it. The interior noise level is only slightly higher. My wife always thought the car was loud and she doesn’t notice any difference, for what that’s worth. It doesn’t bother me, but Steeda told me more sound deadening can be added.

After putting 1501 miles on my Bullitt, I have had a little time to evaluate the noise level and I have to say that my car is super quiet, given that I have a lot of Steeda’s Hardcore parts on the car (motor mounts, stop the hop kit, race shifter, poly transmission mount insert, RLCA spherical bearings, billet vertical links, differential support bracket, differential support bushings (black hard version) with through bolt kit, subframe bushing support kit, drive shaft safety loop, jacking rails and subframe alignment kit. I installed all of these parts at the same time, but if I had to say how much NVH I have on a scale of 1-10, it’s about a 3. I encounter very mild vibration through the shifter knob, but only at 40 mph and again at 70 mph. Once I pass those two speeds, it goes away. I did Dynamat mine very well and I also cut the factory boot to install it over the Tri Ax to make it as quiet as possible.

That’s actually two layers of Dynamat in the area surrounding the shifter itself. It also runs around the bottom of the boot too. I did this to tightly seal the interior from the elements.
