I have a 2019 Whipple Auto car came with the 3.55 I have a 17 inch radial the track hasn’t opened yet nor been able to try on the street with prep

I’m wondering should I gear down to a 3.15 or keep my 3.55

if I do what’s all needed to exchange except for the pumpkin

3.15 if you can find a take off differential to swap, 3.31 if you can are forced to swap the gear

If prep is good and your burnout is solid and it hooks I don’t see why you would consider swapping down a bit unless you somehow think you’ll hit the rev limiter in 4th near the traps.

4th? Are you thinking this is 1/8" mile racing or not a 10r80 car?

Depending upon how your shift points are set, the height of your tires and how much speed you attain at the end of the quarter mile, it might shift to 7th before the end. 6th is typically good for around 127-129 mph. I don't see why a quick shift to 7th would be detrimental. You should be able to manage any wheelspin at launch with your right foot and launch technique. I don't see a big issue with running the 3.55.

You right my mistake, idk why I assumed it was a 6r80 car.

Being a 10r80 id just see if you can find someone to swap to a 3.15. Will be better in the long run I think.

You may be right and many people agree with you. However, I would like to hear the reason that the 3.15 is a better choice for boosted cars.

Nothing wrong with the 3.55, as you grow with the whipple the gear will likely make traction more and more difficult. At some point you will be putting too much power down on 1:1 gear which I hear the clutches don't like. So if you're planning for long term just find someone to trade with. But at ~650ish 3.55 will be fine.

I’m closer to the 900WHP mark

If you are making 900 HP, you must not be concerned about high rpm. A 28" tire with your 3.55 gear is good for over 140 mph in 6th.

It will take a LOT of power to exceed 143 mph in the quarter. If you are comfortable with 7800 RPM shift points, you may not need 7th.
