Hey if you're dumb enough to park in front of a hydrant like that you get what you deserve.

Excuses like this are why I get depressed when I see instructions on shampoo. People are stupid and self centered. This person ticks both those boxes nicely. I would rather the fire department no waste tax payers money on paint just to help people with the IQ of a potato. No insult to potatoes of course.Well obviously, but for some people they need more input/warning (ie, yellow curbs and yellow hydrants - which I thought was standard marking practice) to realize what's going on in the world. Not making excuses for the guy or gal's poor parking judgment - I'm sure they learned about parking next to fire hydrants the "hard way".
It would be in the best interest of the fire department to have well marked fire hydrants and no parking zones marked on the curb in front of them. Unless of course they like breaking out windows and damaging cars just to break up a boring day now and then - LoL.![]()
Situations like that are not the time or the place for giving benefit of the doubt, as the need to deal with the emergency is infinitely more important than finding excuses for somebody who by having a driver's license is expected to know better.Maybe the car owner had a problem. A medical problem. Maybe the fire company is at their house. Ok so the owner had a lapse in judgement by parking there. Is it any reason to wreck up the car. That hose could have easily been run behind the car. The police could have written up a ticket and been done with it.

Suppose it was you or one of your family members still in the house that was burning and more water was needed . . . like right now. Would you feel the same way then? Would a polite little police ticket satisfy you for the extra wait time involved in the fire crew carrying out a different solution?
When you put a hose under pressure it can move around, and a big hose wants to "bend" as gradually as possible. You don't know for sure that it hadn't originally been run behind the car and got moved by the pressure or pressure spikes from being turned off and then on again.

There's many 'what ifs'. When lives are involved then blow the god damned car up. I know about big hoses and pressure. I was a coal stripper.
Probably not. The hose has to be as straight as possible to get the most water pressure. That's why they went through the BMW 3 Series in the other picture. They need space straight ahead, especially the first few feet are very important. Mustang is owner is lucky that the hydrant is further away from the curb, otherwise, their car may have had dents or broken windows from all the water pressure. They were obviously 'making a statement' by routing the hose on and over the car. I agree, they could have pulled up a few more feet and rand the hose on the ground behind the rear end to the hydrant.
Maybe. Fortunately it doesn't look like the FD was slowed down much by this.I think the Seattle Fire Dept should make the city mark hydrants and no parking zones more correctly if they want to help make sure someone doesn't park in front of them.http://media.komonews.com/images/660*366/150424_sodo_fire_03.jpg
Their insurance company will love refusing to pay if they do have a fire and the FD has trouble connecting hoses to the hydrant because of parked vehicles. My local grocery store has marked parking spots right next to a fire hydrant.
You think so? If I was the one running the hose personally I wouldn't risk it getting pinched by the tires when it gets pressure or gets pulled hard to the right. I know its not probable but I wouldn't risk my job/ peoples lives on it. In theory they could've just thrown a fire blanket on the car first too, but its obviously not a priorityThey were obviously 'making a statement' by routing the hose on and over the car. First thing my son said - "Oh...we would have gone right threw it..."He's lucky his windows weren't shattered. Idiot.
