I don't think chrome is dead, but it's definitely not as popular today. I will agree that the matte/hot rod black everything thing is getting played out.
Personally, it depends on the build and what you're going for. For example, on my S550 I wanted a very simple, 2-color, theme. So I eliminated the chrome on the 50 years package and kept the whole car black and white. However, on my SN95, I wanted polished accents.

Nope. 41. But I do build hot rods with lots of chrome.

Go take a ride to a real car show where people actually build cars and not just bolt shit on and bitch about what the factory should have done. THAT is where it's at. People who actually can appreciate other people's taste for the talent and work they put into it. See what you see there where true craftsmen are at work and not some transformed ricer with a rattle can of plastidip who thinks it's better because of some sales pitch. That's right. Lots of chrome on custom made stuff.

Admittedly, I was born way too late to enjoy the hay day era of hot rodding. But I really like chromed out, shiny hot rods with late model muscle and gadgetry
Individual effort and individual taste... that's where it's at to a TRUE car lover. BTW... you forgot about the "turbo" decals and stickers. One man's trash is another man's treasure. I have gloss black on my 2016, but my '93 T-Bird still has chrome bullitts... and I like them, I like them a lot. Even after the wife said it looked like a "ghetto blaster." 'Course, the only taste she has is in her mouth.

That is all...

So there's "lots of chrome on custom stuff"? It can't be custom unless it has lots of chrome? Lol

Today's cars look horrible with chrome IMO. There was a time and place for chrome bumpers and trim and that time ended in the 90's

Stop twisting what I said into what you want to hear.

Yeah, new cars look so terrible with chrome.

Just like the all black steel wheel murdered style, too much of anything is bad. The window surrounds, grill, taillight trim etc of the LE is perfect. A set of nice chrome deep dish would look ok. Much more wouldn't. All black is same way. Too much makes car look gone, not evil. Makes it look like painted steel wheels and unfinished.

Just like life, everything in moderation.

I Happen to like a splash of chrome.....I will not be blackening out my front Pony nor my Chrome GT rear badge, I think a magnetic Mustang with everything black looks bland...

There I said it,

Flame suit on.....

I had a 95 gts, black also. With polished aluminum American racing lemans on it. Same wheels that was on the Kenny brown stalker. Man that thing was sexy. The wheels perfectly stood out from the black car. I wish they was chromed cause polished alum is a pain in the ass. (Side note, I found that car the other day. It's for sale. So tempting). The right chrome done right really sets a car apart from others.

Lol!!! I'm 42 and I can seriously say that even in 95, that was ancient stuff. Contemporary wheels like those we buy today were around back then, they were just in 16"-17" sizes (vs 19" and 2-" today). We were laughing at wheels like that in 95 (as being red neck). Many of the most popular wheels today that people are putting on modern Mustangs could be bought in 95.

These were 16" in 1995

Before you laugh up the Honda, remember that stock this guy was as fast as a stock 95 Mustang GT with 3x the displacement and 4 more cylinders. Guys were turbo'ing the car back then and breaking 11 second quarters (95-97).

Good story and nice picture of the 4 banger but I was referring to the early 80s with the Cragar reference. I just posted the photos of my 95 for shits and giggles.

Chrome is difficult to pull, even in moderation. its just that its so easy to look tacky with it. Chrome wheels are a bit too much, a chrome lip and or accents cooould work. Ill admit the blue aston looks great, not for the wheels themselves but the chrome around the windows actually looks great. The first one looks like sacrilege and the lexus is just wrong. I too, would either color match the body bits or plasti dip em.

Black chrome on the other hand looks amazing in person
