Just wondering if Ford will void the warranty if they catch you with a catch can installed under the hood... Seems like a worthwhile mod for the longevity of your cylinder head.

Unless the dealer you go to is really unfriendly when it comes to mods you should be ok.

I'd be pretty surprised if a dealer voided a warranty over a catch can. They'd have to be on an anti-mod vendetta. Might want to ask your dealer how they feel about it beforehand though.

That's one thing we made sure with ours that it's a complete plug and play system. Easy install and easy to remove. It doesn't change anything in a vehicle's factory tune.

With a no drill Catch Can system like the UPR, the dealer has no ground to void the warranty. In addition you are able to remove the can in a matter of minutes if needed, if you believe that the dealer will have an issue to it.

is there a reason to put one of these on a street car? Just wondering. Does it make any difference in performance? I've never used one.

technically if the installed item doesn't contribute to the problem, they can't refuse warranty service. Doesn't keep them from fighting it though. Catch cans are really just a filter so there isn't much argument oh it hurting something. However, if you trip a code for a vacuum leak in the line that you replace with the catch can or another error with that system, you can expect that to be on you, unless you put the original line back on before you bring it in, which is what I would do.

Google "ecoboost valve deposits" and there's your answer ;-) There's a notorious rant by a Ford mechanic who had his cylinder head replaced because of valve deposits. The factory engineers wanted the head back for analysis...

Because the Ecoboost is a GDI engine (Gasoline Direct Injection), a good can of injector cleaner doesn't clean intake valve deposits like it would in a more traditional fuel injected engine. Furthermore, other methods of cleaning valve deposits (like Sea Foam) have shown that the turbo is very sensitive to heat. There have been many cases of turbos being destroyed shortly after a Sea Foam treatment...apparently, the ecoboost turbo can't handle the extra combustion heat caused by the sea foam burning in the engine.

P.S. The catch can is preventing the #1 source of contamination in the PCV system (oil) from getting deposited onto the intake valves.
