Backstory: Last night was doing some highway pulls with low fuel levels about 65m to E and stopped after a few or close to 40m to E. Got stuck in some traffic and didn't arrive to where I was going til I had about 15m to E. Turned the car off and went in to eat for about an hour and a half. Afterwards, when attempting to start the car it wouldn't turn over, attempted it 3 times figured super low fuel so had a buddy bring me 4 gallons of 93.
Poured that in and the car started right up. Figured everything was good so turned it off and we chit chatted for 20-30mins, attempted to start the car up again and wouldn't turn over. Tried 2-3 more times and prob flooded the engine since we could smell gas coming out the exhaust but may have just been from me spilling a decent amount of fuel trying to get it into the tank earlier. Anyway, we let it sit for 30mins and tried it again, still won't turn over.
Open the hood with the ignition on, start checking fuses and before we even get to check a single one my regulator gets pressure and we start the car up. Drive it around, turn it off, start it back up, everything seems good. Fast forward to this morning and the same thing happens. Won't turn over, turn the ignition off and on and pop the hood with the ignition still on. No fuel pressure so I just let it sit for a min with the ignition on and all of a sudden I get pressure at the regulator and the car starts right up.
I wasn't really paying attention and listening for the fuel pump to prime last night or this morning when turning the ignition on so I don't know for certain if it was coming on initially or not. Not sure if this is a failing fuel pump (I have JPCs dual pump hat with twin 465s) or maybe electrical? Is there perhaps a checklist I should run thru to better diagnose what the problem is?
I assume I got the pumps too hot with such low fuel and now they're dying.
Appreciate the help!
