One thing they don’t mention is image. Nobody like Audi drivers:facepalm:

The other thing is, that although many Ford dealers leave a little to be desired, I’ve read some proper horror stories when it comes to Audi after sales:thumbsdown:

"The S5’s fast-shifting auto box also contributes to that contrast, because the Mustang’s 10-speed auto holds it back. It’s not the biggest hindrance to performance, but it’s slower to shift and has too many ratios. Using the shift paddles sometimes feels more like a suggestion than a command, because the box changes up or down when it feels ready, rather than when you ask it to. With 10 gears available, you find yourself more often in the wrong ratio than the right one."

Why didn't they test the stick shift Mustang, ffs??? It's like they want the Mustang to lose

That was a good review. A genuine comparison given the price points and some fair points.

I hate to read "cheap feeling cabin". That's always wound me up a bit. Some of the materials are not premium & are cheap yes, but the design - that does not feel or look cheap to me at all, one of the most interesting and great looking modern cabins IMO.

Here's my problem with this review and I'm a big German car fan having owned 3 new Audi's, 3 almost-new Porsche's, and 4 new BMW's. Price difference! OTD price difference between these 2 cars in the US is at least $20-$25k equally equipped.

Shouldn't the comparison be between a well-equipped Mustang GT Vert with the Audi A3 Vert similarly equipped? Let's throw in a BMW 230i Vert for the sake of inclusion.

Of course the Audi auto will be better against the stang auto but they should have compared the stang stick with the Audi auto ( Audi only does autos )

Anybody buying a car on objective, rational grounds and/or as a safe status symbol would probably buy the Audi. My choice, and I'm sure it was true for many on this forum, was only between a Mustang and Camaro - I never for an instant considered an Audi, BMW, Merc, etc. Exactly the same is true for the people who would by an S5, and M340i, etc - they'd never consider a Mustang.

When I bought the Vette, I didn't pay any attention to road-tests, same with the Mustang. I like it (them!) and that's all that matters to me.

However, I think the article set out to prove a point rather than make a fair assessment for a number of reasons:
  1. The performance is only similar if you quote a slow figure for 0-60 on the Mustang! A fairer compare would be the RS5 which of course is much more expensive so spoils the "story".
  2. The dual-clutch box on the Audi will definitely be snappier on the move, but those kinds of boxes are notoriously clunky and jerky when parking or in stop-start traffic. Ironically, the RS5 has a proper auto box so would be better in that respect!
  3. Perceived versus real quality. The Audi may have better materials, but so what? My Vette (sadly now gone) had dodgy plastics, but they stood up to 10+ years of use without any deterioration, squeaks or rattles. More than can be said for BMWs and Audis that I and friends have owned in the past.
  4. Audi dealers better? Really? I found the 2 Mustang dealers I dealt with responsive, proactive, helpful and courteous. My wife just bought a BMW, and again the dealer was great. Can't comment on Audi as the dealer never responded to my wife's request for a test drive.... And the Merc dealer was an absolute shambles staffed by trainees who knew nothing about the cars.
