Gibson Cat-Back Performance Exhaust has "Dual 4.5" Intercooled Black Ceramic Coated Tips."

Question: How is it intercooled? And why? What is the advantage?

I haven't seen any other products that make this claim.

Choosing the right exhaust system (the whole shebang - headers, cat-back, and mufflers and tips) is not easy. And arguably it is the most important mod you can make. You cannot really determine if the choice is the best one untilit is installed on your car and tested. Then it is too late. And price is ALWAYS a consideration.

I have always been told that heat at the end of the exhaust system has almost a vacuum like effect in what is further upstream. So with that logic... I have no clue why you would want a cooled exhaust tip... Lol

my best guess is that is uses a double wall construction to keep the outside of the tip cooler so you don't burn your shin on it opening your trunk?

our diesels have fresh air inlets and mixers in the tips to cool the exhaust as it exits, but that's to prevent them from burning things down when they go into "regen".

ultimately, it sounds like marketing hype to me..

They are about the equivalent of putting a +5HP sticker on the car.

There's another, well-known, company **cough**Borla**cough** that claims this too....

These Borla polished stainless steel intercooled exhaust tips have cooling fins around the inside of the pipe. This cools and condenses exhaust gases, reduces backpressure, and mellows out your exhaust tone. Engineered for top performance, Borla delivers maximum low-end torque and top-end horsepower. These tips are offered in round or square outlets
Have NEVER seen any evidence to suggest these claims hold any validity.
