Any thoughts on Progressive?

Just chucked in an online quote for laughs, and came back with $790 premium with a $700 excess and $61,500 agreed value (that's the top of their acceptable range which is unfortunately $5k less than my contract, but oh well).

Whilst I thankfully have no claims experience myself, other family members have successfully claimed through Progressive. Will be checking them out again when my car arrives.

I'm with progressive. Haven't had any claims with them other than a windscreen repair on my previous car. Was fairly painless. Lodge a claim and then local windscreen repairs called me to arrange everything. Was pretty fast.

The only thing is they're a total online only company. You will not speak to any one if you have an issue. Can be an issue for some people.

Been with NRMA for years and they are yet to screw me over.

Paying a couple of hundred more a year is worth it for peace of mind IMO - especially with an "investment" like this one.

does the driver age matter for sports car ?

I know below 25 is more expensive. But I feel like I'm being ripped off by NRMA if I look at other members insurance premium. I'm 29.

agreed value 68k
Excess $1000
windscreen, glass, sunroof damage
no hire car

I have max no claim bonus and still pay $1900 :/

The Insurance Companies also factor into the Premium, your Post Code / Location where you live.

You can live in adjoining Suburbs and pay 100's of dollars difference in the Premium.

Without doubt you are paying a premium with nrma. but you can rest assured that if you have a accident nrma will more rather than less have your back covered and you can choose your repairer. i would be more worried being insured with these cheaper companies who can make your life hell. my cousin has just smashed his audi rs3 and his insurance company bingle will not let him choose his repairer and the car will be repaired by the cheapest quote.this is a hundred thousand plus car. You always pay for what you get in life. if you pay peanuts you get monkeys they say. i would not leave the nrma unless in dire financial need of the extra few hundred dollars

Spot on!

It astounds me how people just focus on the price of the premium, without regard for the differences in the policy terms and the experiences people have had with claims.

I always recommend to family and friends to research people's real life claim experience with insurer's, and with that balance the claim experience against the insurance premium.

Do we have a list of insurance companies which offer you to select your repairer? I mean if you were to get 5 quotes, who would be the top 5 insurers you would go to?

From previous posts, I come to a conclusion that the following make it in the top list:

NRMA
Shannons
RACV
AAMI

Any others?

Btw, ryosaeba and BrizSuz, I had a friend recently who had to go through with Progressive, absolute pain in the butt. Took them ages to respond and to action, sent him to their preferred repairers, pain job was terrible so he had to go again and re-do everything. Took him a month to get his car sorted.

Interesting. Thanks for that w0rt3x. I had RAC previously and took about 6 months to sort out a very simple claim for about $600. Windscreen claims with Progressive was free and was very simple and fast in my experience. However I'm guessing it's because it's cheap.

Nowadays it's hard to believe any of them unless you know of someone who's dealt with the insurer. Also, every case is unique and things change over time, so X company might've been very good for one person but terrible for the next because the policy has changed in the meantime or whatever. I think at the end of the day whoever you go with will sort you out one way or another (god forbid to come to that). For me personally it's a piece of mind more than anything.

LOL @ Bingle - "You can adjust your estimate of the market value of your car between $34,493 and $52,889"

Sure...

EDIT:

And LMAO if you're trying Budget Direct and you're young bastard like me (28), because apparently "Drivers must be at least 30 years of age to be insured for this vehicle."

I have my cars with Shannons. Agreed value, choice of repairer and I keep the recovered vehicle in the case of a write-off.

They have also approved OEM windscreens (twice) instead of Chinese versions. Makes a difference.

It looks like I'll be calling Shannons as soon as Tamesis docks. I got almost 10 quotes online tonight and I wasn't able to get a reasonable premium (cheapest I could get was $1800 I think), nor I could get it insured for what it actually costs.
