So besides the down payment question one should also look to see if there's a penalty to payoff or make additional payments on that 0% 72 month loan. If not then the downside of the lengthy 6 year loan could possibly become irrelevant for many customers.

I asked the finance dept, and there is no penalty for early pay off. Check for yourself of course, but that was my answer.
Take delivery Monday, magnetic Perf Pack, 401A, 750 broshure rebate, 1000 cash back, 0% apr for 60.

Oh, I sold my Ford stocks some time ago:)

1000 rebate and $400 positive equity from the trade in
$:headbang:400 in positive equity from the Trade-In? Oh, a Demolition Derby "Push, Pull, or Tow" clunker thats going to either a Buy Here/Pay Here Lot or the Auto Auction for sure. What a Hoot, $400 of "Positive Equity", LMAO.

I think you need to decouple value and equity as it relates to trade. The OP could have had a vehicle with a value of $50,000 and owed $49,600 as an example. It might not have necessarily been a clunker.

I know the Car Business quite well., both New & Used. When you start talking about getting $400 of positive equity in regards to a Trade In, thats simple a courtesy they would offer if you brought in a Weed Wacker or a Push Lawn Mower. Your projection of a Trade In worth $50K and you owe on it $49,600 just doesn`t happen in real world conditions. Looks fine on paper as a hypothetical possibility but nothing else.

You are simply making a guess and nothing else. Just because you know the business doesn't mean you have any understanding of the situation as outlined by the OP.

I`m not going to get into a pissing contest debating the (merits) of having $400 (positive equity) regardless how its obtained! Your obviously much more on top of financial matter then I. I`m out of this thread, carry on!

Thought I'd follow up here just for those curious and looking for information like I was yesterday.

400A Fastback, manual, voice activated nav, 20" wheels, and 3.55 gears.

MSRP 40,006. $36,150 out the door, 0 down, 0% for 72 months. I won't attempt to debate the merit of the deal, or the business practices of Ford. What I will say is that these deals are out, and easy to find with good credit. Also, no penalty for early payoff.

Blue Springs Ford in MO was my dealer, was very pleased with the process.
