You can remove the sensor from the filter box and mount it on the IC. So you will have temperature on your Instrument clusterBeen doing some more digging...
Will something like this work:

It looks like the one in that above link would fit in the dead space under the HVAC controls (where the "Shaker" plate is located forward in the center console).
