I'm currently revving out 1K rpm's higher than stock and running Amsoil Sig 5w-20. Is that weight still good enough, or should I look into the Amsoil Sig 0w-40 or a 5w-30?

Thanks

Use the oil weight the motor was designed for.

It was.....ya know......designed for the 5W20. There's all sorts of tolerances and bearings and oil passages designed around that weight oil.

Right, but you have to also consider the viscosity needed when the engine is being used at a higher than OE calibrated threshold. The oils I listed are not all that different than a 5w-20 during normal driving, but at higher RPM's, they may perform better.

Maybe 5w30 to keep the extra heat in check. I wouldn't go crazy like using 5w50.

Mororcraft 5W50 is recommended for track use. I'd do that or 0W40
Really? I'd never guessed at a 5W50 in any condition, but I will keep that in mind during future track events. Especially on these 90°+ days

I mean it's pretty common for the same engine to have 5w20 in the US and 5w30 in europe because the german autobahn is pretty hard on the engine when you are cruising at 120mph.

5W20 is used here due to MPG regulations.

Exactly. So if MPG is not my end goal, and revving the engine higher than the OE limiter, then what would be the most ideal daily oil, as well as the best track oil. I guess that should be the new question.

From what I have read, Redline 5W50.

Yes and no. It's not just any engine can run 5w20 safely. A engine has to be designed to run 5w20 or it will damage itself. Same with an engine has to be designed to run 5w50 or it will also damage itself.

5W20 is used for MPGs here. But regardless of why it's used, that is the oil weight the engine is designed to use.

The BOSS and Track Pack of 2012-2014 used 5W50 from the factory, but there were differences (I can't remember what they were, I read about it awhile ago) in those engines, and they were made to run that weight oil.

If I were in your position, I'd use the OEM weight oil, and find the highest quality oil. Of course, all oils are good now, so it's not hard. Hell, you can get Mobil1 and Royal Purple at Walmart now. And I think you meant to type that you use Amsoil now, and that's great stuff too.
