How's my car running compared to yours?

I've had my axle temp hit 200F on a twisty road drive here in north TX with low 80F ambient. The temps look normal to what I've seen. Were you using 6th gear on the highway or staying in 5th (or lower)? I think it could heat the diff more when cruising in a lower gear.

Driveshaft is still spinning at the same RPMs regardless of what gear you're in.Granted ,at lower gear you can transfer more energy to the differential but not by much when your just cruising down the highway.

Well, I dd my GT and see about the same temps. BG diff oil change may help with a finned cover maybe? These "paddles" are the bomb as I gain experience using them. 6R80 forever!

A finned cover? He has a diff cooler. And why are you upside down? Axle temp way too high. Now, 194 isn't going to cook anything, but something isn't right in your diff causing those high temps.

And yes, the sound system is just pitiful in the GT350. Sounds just like the stock radio in my 1992 GT before I upgraded it... by ripping everything out and starting over.

After a 45 minute drive to work this morning, mixed highway/city these are my results...

2017 GT350

- Axle Oil Temp: 147
- Cylinder Head Temp: 210
- Inlet Air Temp: 104
- Engine Oil Temp: 205
- Trans Oil Temp: 133

Never saw the axle oil temp go above 149*F.

Just drove a little under 30 miles here today, outside temp here in AZ is about 97 degrees right now. I drove almost non stop mostly from 60-80 mph, the diff temp just kept creeping up, I never saw it drop, even when I got off the freeway and onto surface streets on my way home, sitting at a few lights, maxing out at 45mph the last 5-6 miles, etc. Here's my final temps:

Axle oil temp - 178
Cyl head temp - 205
Engine oil temp - 217
Trans oil temp - 142

The temps from my first post were at night, so the ambient air temp was about 15 degrees or more cooler. I've read that the computer stores instances over 293 degrees on the diff, so clearly I'm not near that, but in another 700 miles or so we're going to start tracking the car so I'm a bit worried that I have a diff temp issue already and don't want to ignore it until I hit the track and find a real problem.

In what part of AZ are you? I'm way in southern AZ.

With your sound system, do you have the occupancy settings set for "driver" or "all"? Might make a difference.

The pavement, particularly in Arizona, picks up a lot of radiant heat which is absorbed by your undercarriage. The convective heat loss is scrubbed from the road by airflow but the radiant heat will be absorbed directly into your vehicle. Blacktop will be worse for radiant load. Parts closer to the ground will be more affected. So temp variations are meaningless without controlling for road and climate variables.

Car now has over 250 miles on it, was able to take it out for the longest drive I've been able to so far, a bit over 50 miles to hit some freeway speeds, higher gears, etc. Want to see how the temps are running compared to what others are seeing. Assume these numbers are after 50 miles of freeway speed driving alternating between 5th and 6th gear and 65-80 mph. I'll get some track stats once I get the car broken in a bit.

I also would like to talk stereo. I have the Sync system (Convenience Package) and I'm wondering how bad everyone else feels it is. The sound seems like it's coming only from the center of the dash like it's a single speaker, even though it's supposedly 9. If I turn it up and adjust the bass all the way up, and move the treble and mid about halfway down it is juuuuuuust bearable. I get that it's a factory radio, but wow is it bad.

Also on the drive tonight the satellite radio cut out at least 30 times, several times to the point where it would display "Acquiring Signal". My last 3 (including current) daily driver vehicles were/are Ford Trucks with satellite radio and there are certainly 2-3 spots in town where there is signal interruption, very predictable and consistent across every vehicle. Nothing like this. The difference being the others were 2012-2014 Sync systems, not Sync 3 (I believe?). I read that some 2016 and above Ford vehicles were having the "aerial assembly" replaced and that has fixed the issue, but haven't found anything GT350 specific. Anyone else?

Nah, just me in it. It's early in the cars life, I'll keep an eye on it as I put more miles on it. Definitely interested to see what others are seeing temp wise on various drives of 50 miles or so. I get that the temps here are high, but it sure doesn't seem like this "differential cooler" is doing much of anything. I would have assumed that a cooler equipped car on a pretty basic freeway drive, not super fast speeds, no crazy cornering, etc. would run pretty cool. If nearing 200 degrees is the norm then fine, but if everyone else sees it around 145 then I'm concerned.

Interesting that you saw it at 149 but ended at 147. I NEVER see my temp go down, it just goes up and up and up. Slowly for sure, but it never goes down, no matter what driving conditions.

Yeah I was paying attention to the axle oil temp the most on my drive to work because the OP's reading was so high and I've never seen mine reach that high. Highest it climbed to was 149*F and by the time I parked it was at 147*F.

104 degrees here today and drove about 60 miles round trip earlier in the midst of the heat, axle temp went up to 199 degrees but held steady there. I'm not sure if that's where the cooler kicks in or what, but it never went above 200 for about the last 10-15 miles. Granted I wasn't running the car hard which is why I'm wondering if there's a normal operating threshold at 199? Had the kid in the car with me so I wasn't able to push it any in order to cross the 200 degree mark.

Anyone else hit over 200 in "normal" driving conditions?

I also connected the phone via Bluetooth to play some music and the quality is much better. I have satelllite radio in the Raptor and the sound quality is hardly noticeable between Bluetooth, USB and satellite. The satellite radio quality in the GT350 is absolutely abysmal, I would have never thought it was that poor.
