Several months ago i bought a Speed Dawg shift knob, after seeing the CPPP 50 Years shift knob, i decided i wanted one of those. i used blue lock tight to secure the SD knob. i just tried to take the SD knob off, and it is solid. any tricks to break it free without damaging my shifter?

I have had expereinces trying to remove shift knobs that were just screwed on way tight and had battles with them........But locktite, that really ups the shift knob removal frustration to whole 'nother level. Good luck, may the force be with you.

Luckily you didn't use red Loctite! If you can't loosen it by hand, try wrapping a towel around it to protect it and use a pair of channel locks or vice grips.

Use a hairdryer, set it on high heat on medium fan.

You want to direct the hot hair right under the shift knob where it meets up with the shifter stalk for about 10 to 15 minutes. It'll get hot enough to cook the Loctite without damaging anything.

With that large a thread and the size of the ball you shouldn't have any issues breaking it loose with blue loctite. Go into the kitchen and grab your wife/girlfriend/mothers rubber jar opener pad, that should give you more than enough traction to turn it.

FWIW, the instructions that came with my ball from CJPONY called for the use of blue loctite and a small tube was supplied. It's the only way it can be installed. The instructions stated to run it all the way down then back it off until the reverse lockout will move enough to allow getting it into reverse.

Which part exactly, the knob or stalk?

Neither...if you use the proper technique & tools.

No just heat it up some with a hairdryer. Same thing for those stuck on 5.0 emblems it will come loose.

I took the rubber filter remover and it popped and came right off. the 50 years running horse looks really nice. dont get me wrong the Ford Racing logo shift knob looked nice too. for some reason i just really liked the running horse knob. so, if anyone is interested in SD Ford racing, i have one for half price....
