Hi, new member here.

I've had my 2017 GT since 1 March, and am looking at doing a few mods, starting with a Roush axle back, but before going ahead I wanted to gauge the likely affect on the insurance costs.

I know that only my insurance company can tell me what the cost increase will be (if any), but I don't want to declare my intentions yet, until doing a bit of research first, hence this post.

Can any of you share your experiences of the effects on insurance when declaring an exhaust modification, and which insurer that was with.

Thanks.

I think the difference was about £20-£30 for a Milltek catback. Im with Aviva.
Remember key phrases such as "no performance gains" ;)

Things only really go pear shaped once you do stuff like an engine tune - large numbers of insurers drop out at that point and you're at the mercy of a small pool.

I found not telling them was the best course of action to ensure mine doesn't go up....

Thanks for all the replies so far.

It seems that the exhaust change should not pose a great issue with the insurer, since it is not designed to offer any performance increase.

With most mods, as long as you explain that it doesn't effect performance they don't care too much. On my old car, it cost £5 extra for the year to lower it

Pray you don't need to make a claim as you hit someone and they find you've not been honest, they can void your insurance. This means they'll pay out to the 3rd party but come after you for charges...or they'll just charge you the extra money you should have paid if you had declared your mods.

Cost me £50 half way through a policy year to declare the axle back exhaust.
