So the other day I was checking the oil on my 350 and also wiping down the engine compartment. I had a damp hand towel and I was wiping under the hood when I wiped near and around the hood vent. I was going around the outer edge of the vent when I heard plastic pieces crumbling into the engine area. I was thinking what in the world, I was using little to no pressure and did not snag on anything. So I take a look at the vent and about half of the tabs that secure the vent had simply broken off. I could not believe it. I went to one of the clip that had about half remaining and put a tiny bit of pressure with my fingernail and snap, off it came. This material is beyond brittle. I don't know how it wil last.

I guesss what I am saying is be very careful around this part, the slightest touch will damage the clips. Luckily there are enough remaining that it should stay in place. I am hoping someone will release a different design (carbon fiber, better material) so I can replace it. I also hope no other plastic on the car is of this same material.

That vent looks like a nylon part and the clips are very thin. Regardless, you had a bad part installed on your car. Most likely degraded material in molding (that's my profession). Nylon should not react with any chemicals that you would expose your car to and it should get tougher exposed to ambient air and moisture. Definitely take it back to the dealer and get that part replaced under warranty.

Thanks for the reply, I will definitely claim this as a warranty issue.

^^^This. Common problem if molding parameters or regrind ratios aren't controlled.

I broke a couple tabs off mine trying to remove it when removing old stripes. Very thin and brittle.
