I have added the redline struts to my car... I cannot believe how much the hood flexes at the hood mounts! Should I be overly concerned?
Thanks

Why would/could hood struts cause the hood to flex?

It just seems like where the hood meets the hinge, the struts keep it from rising any further but if you lift slightly on the hood out at the end it really feels weak.

Guess the flex is where the hinges mount to the hood, not the entire hood itself

The hoods are aluminum so they will flex. The mounting points become the fulcrum however it won't be an issues unless you plan to leave your hood up in windy conditions or for days/weeks on end. You'd have the same issues with using the stock hood prop rod....

I installed them also, and noticed the very same thing your describing. Obviously Ford didn't reinforce that area of the hood around the hinge mounts because they knew that a hood rod would be used. I am very careful closing my hood when taking the hood load off the struts at the top.

You don't have the same issue with the prop rod because there is nothing restricting the hood at the hinge. Was just wondering if others have seen the same thing. I wouldn't want to leave it up on a windy day, that's for sure.

This will probably be dealt with down the road, in a different model year. This why i did not use hood struts and left the prop. I have hood struts on my 2014 5.0. You will notice a lot of flex in different areas of this new design. Maybe thats why Ford still kept the prop rod.....:headbang:

Disagree...put the prop in and grab the opposite side corner of the hood and pull....plenty of flex. Leave the hood propped up long enough and that corner will start to sag.
