Hi Folks

Was just wondering how many on the forum have been diehard Holden/HSV fans/drivers for years and then have then seen the 2015 Ford Mustang and said wtf, I have to have that car? I have always been a Monaro fan over Ford GTHO, Holden HSV over Ford FVP, for over 35 plus years. But when I saw the new Stang that all changed. Still love the Holden/HSV's but this Stang has made me change my colours? Now in both camps!

I think there are a few more like me out there. When I mentioned this to the dealer he was a bit taken aback when I said I don't usually look at Fords until the Mustang came along. I told him to take it as a compliment, if I am Holden/HSV looking at the mustang then surely others are too?

Cheers
Mustang Mick

I'd classify myself as a Holden guy, but really I'm a bit of both. Every other car I've owned (only 4 others) has been a Holden, and modern Holden's appeal to me much more than modern Fords (mustang aside).

But, give me any old Aussie classic from either camp. XA coupe is still my dream classic, but damn did the 308 in my WB sound good

Well done Mustang Mick, may the FORDS be with you!

Some others may eventually have to turn if Chevrolet, sorry, Holden don't import Holden Corvette or Holden Camaro models (that just doesn't sound right).

P.S. In another life I used to be a Holden/Chev fan.

i was never a "diehard" holden fan, my last car was a SSZ ute, i'm more just a fan of anything that goes fast and makes a good sound doing it.

I would've said I was a diehard Holden fan as a kid but as I got older I was less interested in both and once the Supertaxis came in it sealed the deal and couldn't be bothered with either brand. I've never owned either apart from a used Gemini as my first car which I only had for a couple of years until I could afford something better.

Ford made the right decision in making the Mustang available RHD at a time neither the Camaro or Challenger are available.

I am an all around car guy. I love my Mustangs but I did have a CV8Z Monaro for a while until I sold it to fund my Boss resto. The Monaro was a great car and I would have loved to have kept it. I have a 63 Corvette now along with my Mustangs and loving that as well.

This is my first Ford.

Starting from 1970, I have owned,
1 x Toyota Corolla SL
8 x Toyota Celica's
2 x Holden SS Commodores
2 x HSV Clubsport R8's

I'm not aligned to any particular brand, just love V8 Muscle Cars.

When I retire, my new job will be building a Roaring Forties GT 40 Kit Car.
Any one here know of any one who has a GT 40 or built one.
There are several GT 40 Kit Car manufactures in Australia.
At this time, I plan to fit it with the 5.0 Coyte.

Born and bred Holden/HSV but with no option for my V8 fix my choice is Mustang.

My brother has a Roaring 40's GT40 with a 5.0 litre Windsor engine. He built it himself over 10 years ago and I have driven it as well. Amazing cars and the engine with the bundle of snakes exhaust just over your shoulder is an amazing experience. I can imagine the Coyote engine (with a supercharger maybe??) would also be an amazing engine to have in one of these cars.
Cheers.

Thanks for the reply George.

Do you know if your brother kept a 'Build Log', and if so how many hours did he take to build it?

Last September I was going to buy the Chassis and Suspension sub assemblies, and commence building over a 3 or 4 year period, buying the sub assemblies as I progressed through the build, as I'm still working and short on spare time.

I then had second thoughts as I thought, what if Roaring Forties ceased trading for any reason, half way through the build.

At this stage I will buy all the sub assemblies up front and hope to build it in 12 to 18 months, when I retire in a couple of years.

I have looked at a couple of completed ones for sale, however I would prefer to build to my own specs.

In 25 years of driving Ive owned 25 cars and mostly Holden V8's....My first car was a two door Escort (1978) then a XF Falcon but from the XF I wanted to get a V8 but they were dropped in the EA so I purchased a VP Ex pursuit :)....I haven't had a ford since but the Mustang just grabbed me and ticked ALL the boxes. I really wanted an older muscle car but as a daily they're just no good so the 2016 Mustang was the best "newer" Muscle car.If I didnt buy that I would have kept my 2014 Jeep SRT or bought a second hand VF GTS.

All you need to do is to look at my avatar pic... That's my 'weekender', a 1972 Torana XU-1 mock up.

Had my heart set on one of the final Commodore SS-V Redlines which I would have got this year. About 18 months ago the lure of the sexy Mustang had me converted, I placed my order October last year and received my beasty a month ago.

Absolutely love it...

Besides it's not a Ford, its a Mustang, haha.

But seriously, that Coyote donk is fantastic and despite what others think, I think it makes a great noise in stock form.

EL II XR8, 2015 Mustang GT on the way!
I grew up admiring Chevy's, particularly the shoebox '55-'57 ones as that's what my dad used to drive when he was younger. When he moved to Aus just before I was born they got a ZH Fairlane, so thats the car I have wistful memories of.

Funnily enough I've only ever owned Fords, and barring my first car that my parents bought for me, I've only ever bought V8 ones!

1st: XF Falcon ute, 3 on the tree converted to 4 spd, added a cam and exhaust to the trusty old grandpas axe. Though I also used to run around in one of dad's 6 cyl F250's when I could too.
2nd: ZH Fairlane, this time with the 351
3rd: P6 LTD, again with the 351 aaaaaand power windows #gangsta haha
4th: EL (II) XR8, manual with the 185kw motor, changed out the throttlebody and MAF myself - still got some GT40P heads wrapped in oil if anyones interested.

Now on to my first brand new car in the Mustang and ABSOLUTELY LOVING it!

OZDAZ5.0, I too was going to pick up a VF GTS, esp as the prices have dropped a bit. More grunt than the stang but the look of the stang won me over. If you want more power you can always add it I guess. Having said that I think the VF HSV's and the Redlines all probably some of the best looking commodores yet. I did think about my decision for a while before I went ahead and put myself on a 12 month plus waiting list. Hard when I could have picked up a Holden/HSV a damn sight quicker. All good in the long run I guess.
