It will help the car's performance on the track. I don't think Ford would have changed the spoiler used on the base/tech models if it didn't help. As this may be well and good when using the car on the track, the vast majority of the time, the car is driven on the streets. That being said, I personally do no like the aesthetics of the track spoiler. I think it breaks up the beautiful silhouette of the Mustang's lines. The "lip" spoiler is just enough to aid airflow over the rear of the car and complete the lines of the car. This is not a put down on track cars; rather, when I (just me) look at the side profiles of both cars, the base/tech equipped "lip" spoiler cars just look better and cleaner.
