So after installing a RST and lightened steel flywheel the car would make an intermittent grinding noise from the starter (verified, teeth on the starter are all chewed up, flywheel is a little beat up but not terrible). Sometimes it would make the noise on start up, sometimes it would make it after a couple pulls and then pressing in the clutch. I replaced the starter and its still doing it. I'm very confused at this point.

Did you use a torque wrench on all bolts?
Did you make sure that all mounting faces were clean and free of debris?

Sounds like either a misaligned flywheel or a poorly manufactured one? If it's making the sound other times besides just when you're starting the engine, I'd say you've definitely got an issue with your flywheel and maybe your clutch.

I work at a Ford dealership and had our Ford Master Tech install it so I'm confident in the install. It didn't do it all the time, seemed to do it more so after some WOT pulls. I would think if there was a mechanical issue with the flywheel it would do it all the time, but who knows.

Got it. Ring gear ended up coming off the flywheel. Mcleod is taking care of it.
