Actually the carb cleaner will not do either, ( I suppose in severe excess anything can happen ) but carb cleaner is specifically designed to clean petroleum base products quickly. Your paint and Finnish is water based , plastic door clips although petroleum based won't damage. Kinda like buying paint thinners in a plastic bottle. Simple Green is a good alternative if your in doubt, it just won't cut as quickly.

^^^ Go spray carb cleaner on your hood and let us know how it looks. ;) I would never spray carb cleaner on any painted surface I didn't want to mess up. Electrical cleaner or mass air flow sensor cleaner wouldn't be as harsh as carb cleaner.

I thought we were cleaning the inside of a door latch to clean, not Detailing and waxing the car. If the WD40 was to be totally removed door latch should be taken out and flushed cleans and relubricated

De icer will do the trick(spoiler notoce use at your own risk) , lived up north in the quiet town called Detroit'' (prounced De'troit)...had an old ford tarrus that would always and i mean always do this... it got so bad some mornings i would crawl through the trunk so i wouldnt have to bungie cord all the doors togther to keep them closed... hated taking people anywhere in that car cause once the passenger gets dropped off, my door would never close again for a while, so it was every bit of 20 dollars in bungie cords keeping them shut.

But after the doors thawed it was all good, or after i wasnt too cheap to buy de icer....side note, car got stolen while in this quiet suburb. Who would have figured?

left the deicer bottle on the seat,i think they were breaking in for it and decided they had to have the barney purple ford tarrus.(ps that was the paint code)
so someone decided they wanted it.so use at your own risk!

Now that's a great story.....lol SouthBend Indiana here, and yes those older fords freeze up tight. It's always best to see some one pour warm water on a frozen door and expect it not to freeze again

Instead of trying to clean the WD-40 out ... I'd just hit it with some silicone spray lube. Doubt the WD-40 in there is going to cause any issues.

You all do know WD-40 is "water displacement" formula number 40 right?? It's primary design is to displace water. I do agree long term silicon is probably much better, but just read the care section of the owners manual for Fords recommendations .

Was cold this morning and after I got in my car the vehicle said the car door was still open. There was some ice on the bottom so tried to clear that way. No luck. I played with the lock and I think it is stuck in the lock position now and won't come down. Help
Hey 5starr0,

I agree with your bringing it into your Ford Dealer as soon as possible to have this addressed. Let me know what they say.

I'll post details monday. I just have to go to a different dealer since the last one was still so bad it makes me grind my teeth. When they brought it to the body shop to take car of some body panel issues they dented the under side of that door, i wonder if it is related. New dealer is only about 10 miles away so i'll hopefully have a better service experience.
