All the old school headers that were prone to leaks were made out of mild steel, and had 1/4" flanges. All the newer brands that I have personally seen are stainless with 3/8" or 1/2" flanges. The thicker flanges keep them from warping, and the stainless can handle higher temps. Which also helps

makes sense. I'll have to ask them if that is what they were seeing leaks on.

yeah i know the cold start ups is going to be too loud with almost 3 year old and 8 month old... I'd have to make sure they were in the car first or inside. bah. my oldest wouldn't be happy he loves to hear it start up but i won't let him stand behind it on startups even with just the xtremes anyways.

too bad resonated catless headers don't exist :p

Wonder how starts and overall volume would be with catted ones.

I honestly dont see cats quieting the car down that much. My 12 had LTs, race cats and magnaflow comp catback and it was just a little bit quieter than my 15 without cats.

I have no cats, and the Borla Sport. Personally i love the sound, loved it with just exhaust, and now love the sound even more with the headers.

you sound like me on 3yo and 8mo – I have a 2.5 yo and 8 mo. 5am cold startups would be a rolling train wreck for the kids. Thanks to these 6G boards, I'm second guessing my header decision (but thats not a bad thing - just more perspectives from different angles) ;)

I'm still committed to do the Kooks Green catted + Magnaflow Street. Most feedback is that MF Street subdued, but I'm guessing with LT flow it will wake up a bit more (that’s my theory). The fact that everything is 3” was a driver. Kooks product team says the Greens really don’t need a tune, but I'm doing the Steeda CAI catted Kooks profile to improve throttle response.

My take on leaks is that I've seen QC issues with Diamond Star, and GM factory manifolds (cast or steel) before, but not much with the better aftermarket quality stuff - they do a lot of QC before parts leave (more than most factory fitments).

If you’re thinking of heat concerns in you climate, go with a thermostat and hard steel clutch line (or braided) – the factory is plastic. And if you’re considering wrapping the headers – that is where cracks will start due to heat dissipation irregularities. Think twice and splurge for the coating option if you can – it wears better than a wrap over time
