for those who have the 401A option, what do you think of the HD radio? Does every station broadcast HD? Does it get rid of static on AM radio? Does the FM sound as good as CD or MP3? When you tune stations, can you specify only HD stations?

Hd radio is only supported by stations that broadcast in HD AM radio is not supported... as far as I know, in HD... SOMETIMES the HD is not as great as CD.... generally it is at a lower bitrate anyways

90 tempo.
It's near CD quality. Plus with the tag option if you hear a song you like you can tag it and it'll save it for you to late on purchase it from iTunes.

Comparing it to regular radio, its great... If you can hold the signal. In the bay area in cars I find it drops out back to regular FM and back to HD very often due to multipath signal issues.

HD also has support for extended MetaData like album art, which is nice. Here's a lot more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_Radio

Digital radio is very distance limited. If the signal weakens beyond a certain point the receiver stops playing. Few 'rural' stations broadcast in HD. Consider HD radio as strictly an urban broadcast.

HD radio is great. I'll echo everyone else in saying that it's only good as long as you can hold the digital signal. Going back and forth between SD and HD radio is very annoying.

I have HD radio in my GTI, live near San Jose, CA, and find the feature pointless. I listen to a relatively strong classic rock station and it still cuts in and out all the time. I've turned it off and would not pay extra for it.

The Bone? :)

Unless you are stationary in the Bay Area it's pretty pointless with the hills from the valley. My Jeep, my C7 and the S500 get spotty reception. At work I have an AVR with HD tuner attached to an antenna and the reception is perfect.

HD IS supported on AM stations. The difference on AM is amazing, you would swear it is FM. I had HD in my 2013 GT and would listen to AM sports broadcasts in HD occasionally.

Yes, them and KFOX (go sharks!). Used to listen to KSJO when it was a rock and roll station. Anyhow, for me, HD radio hasn't shown any value.
