Since I did not get the 401a package I did not get HD radio. As I understand it, HD became standard on job3 and newer mustangs so I am wondering if there might be as easy way to add it to older cars.

Is it possible or would it end up being as complicated as trying to add and activate the factory GPS system?

Nope, HD radio is only the 401a package and was never standard period. (201a also works)

Fords website and material is wrong. The order guide however is correct.

I tried so hard to get HD radio without the 201a and it won't happen. Damnit Ford.

I really would love to enable it too but it looks to be twofold. I am unsure with sync3 but on sync2 it was a totally separate module that had to be installed, along with a provisioning change in the software. It's probably the same in sync3. Navigation is doable with just a software change, there's a guy that does it but it costs almost as much as nav was from the factory, plus you had to pull your head unit and ship it to him.

I really hope someone figures out how to add it to sync3 without having to buy a whole new unit from Ford parts (which is easily over a grand)

hmm.

Looking at the fordparts site, this is the radio I have:

Stock radio

And this looks to be exactly the same unit, only with HD

With HD

So I am guessing you have to replace the whole head unit and that's a bummer.

It does look to be down under $800 now though, if that helps.
