Just wondering how hard of a job is it and what all is involved

took it to a dealer to have the update downloaded and they said SYNC would not take the download. I have also had problems where SYNC would just shut down and nothing would turn on. After 15 to 20 minutes of screwing around with it it would work again for a month or two. They said they think the module was causing all the issues.why are you replacing it?
replacing it with a another SYNC moduleAre you looking to replace a SYNC module with another SYNC module? If so, that's relatively easy if you can take the dash bits off.
If you're looking to replace SYNC with an aftermarket solution, right now you're boned as there isn't any such option in place.
I know it's under warranty, just would like to know how much they have to take apart to replace itYou should be under warranty...wouldn't worry about how hard it is, that is the dealer's issue not yours.
The module is behind the screen. Take off the small dash trim piece at the far right passenger side and then the large dash trim piece comes right out (it's just held in by clips).I know it's under warranty, just would like to know how much they have to take apart to replace it
Thanks , that's what I wanted to know. If they screw something up at least I know were to lookThe module is behind the screen. Take off the small dash trim piece at the far right passenger side and then the large dash trim piece comes right out (it's just held in by clips).
Once that's out, the factory bezel comes off. This is a little tricky; there are a couple tough-to-reach fasteners underneath the change tray.
After the factory bezel is pulled out far enough there are a few connectors (HVAC, stereo buttons/knobs, CD player) and then the bezel is out.
Then the screen is held in by a few screws. It pulls out easily enough.
Behind that is the black box of Ba'al, and the SYNC module can be replaced.
Total time should be well under 2 hours -- probably more like an hour at a dealership.
