Figured I'd put together a little something due to several people asking for an install guide to the navigation system that is starting to gain popularity to the base model guys as it's the only true factory style replacement besides obviously going with the MFT swap.. This is a fairly easy swap that I did with no instructions like many since it seems none of these kits come with good instructions..

First off you'll need the following..

7mm socket with extension.
Torx bit T15
Dremel or similar cutting device
A small flat head or similar tool to help with pulling and prying trim pieces.

Packing for the touchscreen. Pretty simple just the bezel with screen already in place and the wiring harnesses

First your going to want to remove the dash trim that cover the top part of your radio, but before you do that you have to remove the smaller plastic trim piece lying to the right of your glove box which can be tricky.. I referred to the cj pony parts video showing how to remove all the trim.

Piece next to the glove box which you need to be extremely careful to not break the top tab like I did

e794c8aa6de3a7c98c7ca712b5d36fde.jpg

Several tabs here as you want to work from right to left

1c56cd99701c5e7ab51926f35bce8575.jpg

The piece will pop out pretty easily if you just pull just be careful with it as the tabs can break ( I broke one)

b71de40eb53f8e77ecff41065a9b953f.jpg

Also for you performance pack guys don't forget to release the connector that plugs into the back of the trim piece that powers your gauges

ac39a58d56fdd068fea71479d66b8e50.jpg

From here you will want to go ahead with the 7mm socket and remove the top two bolts holding in the radio shown here

af995f3224516ed5f78ee5ffc8419787.jpg

Then you will have to located these two at the bottom of you're bezel located between the usb and 12v outlet. There will be a black piece which can be popped out with a very thin trim tool or flat head just be easy so you don't chip the plastic.

18a05062dfd723f978d7b7c0f2260fb3.jpg

Now the trim piece can actually be removed and it's a tight fit. I was able to work from the left side first then the right as there are tabs that stick out from the bottom ends of the bezel that make it difficult. Once again just take your time to ensure you don't break anything.. Once you have it out be sure to unplug all the connectors located on the back side.. After doing so the unit should look like this

57f953bbc767e3ad4c21abcea80c4309.jpg

From here go ahead and take the unit you pulled out and the new piece and go find a desk or table to work on. You'll need your t15 torx bit at this point. You will be removing the screws from the plastic piece show below which will reveal the circuit board which you'll be transferring over.

25b91322e0182ce965a40396750f307e.jpg

Do your best to keep everything together because you won't be re using every single screw you remove.

Now the circuit board should be revealed so go ahead and remove all the screws here to release it from the bezel

aa89292d7dac9f039a708fb6a76c421b.jpg

Once this is removed you will need to pull all the switched out which come out easily. You will have to trim the (ok,up,down, left, right) button at the top which I have included a picture. Along with that you will not be reusing the buttons above those so you will need to trim off the rubber pieces since you will only be using the OK and arrow buttons which I've included in the next couple pics

Left over pieces I had from the stock unit

3f87d596b0aa9fada134cc14d0b1cd0b.jpg

Now the original black piece you removed to reveal the circuit board will have to be trimmed to fit the new unit I have some mediocre pics showing that below, (left my dremel at my friends garage so it looks really hanky but worked lol)

6c6b4b6b10176eb289aba35ef180a4b6.jpg

So now the finished product should look like this

8febde880927bd2f9ca728a9230a3719.jpg

Now you can return to the vehicle to finish installation..

You will have to remove the CD player which is held on by 4 7mm bolts to be able to reach the two connectors on the back side. I also removed the sync box (held on by 3 7mm bolts) during this process to make it easy for me to move my hands along with the new harness

75f158cc75c3669f232e77dee32d5dcd.jpg

From this point go ahead and connect the harness to the bigger plug extending and then the left over plug from the harness into the CD player itself

28c2e90268213f1e1c36e0e30bb89116.jpg

At this point I plugged in the screen with the supplied plug from the harness and the back up camera along with all the factory connectors that go back into the circuit board to test the unit before putting everything back together.. I would recommend everyone does this to avoid having to pull it all apart again lol..

261b5f11395108a8fe279a7188657fc0.jpg

Next I ran the gps antenna thru the dash as shown below and up to my headliner and all the way to where my review mirror is for a nice subtle install... Included some pics showing that

From this point on just return everything to normal and enjoy your new unit!! I hope this will help anyone wanting to do it themselves.

Here's the video I made the first night I installed it

I've never written an install guide before so I know it's not gonna be great but I figure it would at least help I know this information would of made my install quicker along with giving me more confidence to tackle it in the first place since I was a little nervous about doing it at first.

Really glad I did this and love the unit!

Here's some finished pictures of the product. Included some pics of the navigation and a video of me going thru the screens to show how fast it runs and all the English options..

The next question would be if this could/would void any type of warranty with the car. I know Ford likes to play that card from time to time. Either way tho, looks great. I'd just be afraid that I would damage something pulling out all of those pieces. I think i'd rather have a professional installation, just to be safe. Thanks for the write-up tho!

That's what I've been saying about the Paxton kit I want lol.

That's a could question that I can't really answer.. But thanks I appreciate it!

It does for the songs when connected to a phone but for some reason I haven't seen it pop up for the radio stations which I recall my base radio was the same way as well

Sorry for the abundance of questions... but...
  1. How is the navigation?
  2. What does the "Video" option do?
  3. Does the phone work well with it?
  4. What do the arrows and OK button below the screen do now?
  5. Do the steering wheel controls work?
  6. Is there anything that you are not happy with?
  7. Does the USB cord still work?

1.Navigation is the best I've ever used and this is coming from someone who has a 15 fusion with my ford touch navigation and my last three vehicles have had it including my Shelby.

2.video allows you to play a video via your phone or dvd. I haven't used it yet.

3. My iPhone works fine with it.

4. They are pretty much useless to me now as I haven't even tried using them lol

5. Yes they work as normal.

6. The sync is in Chinese which doesn't bother me since I don't use voice commands. Also for some reason the clock keeps getting an hour ahead but while in the navigation app it works perfect.

7. Yes it does it works as Normal

It will not play a DVD. Video has to be played through the USB cord that is hooked into the aftermarket wiring harness. It will however play video while driving

Thanks for the response. Is there a daylight savings option? That might do something. I've seen that with other electronics.

I haven't found one in the clock settings yet. It gives me option for 12 and 24 hour but no luck.

What was the cost and where did you buy this kit? Did you have to buy anything else or just a easy swap? How long did this install take?
