I'm considering opening the outer air inlet for better airflow to my air intake. My car is not a performance pack so it has a small opening the the honeycomb mesh. I have a Procharger P1X with a MAK Hurricane intake (12" long filter) which is right behind this area. I'm thinking a little more ambiant airflow on the left side can't Hurt.

That inlet is there for aerodynamic purposes for the front wheel wells. Given how much you'd have to cut/remove to pipe air from that up there, I don't see the point.

Not only that, but it's a hell of a way for water ingestion if the car were to ever encounter street water accumulation after heavy rains.

No factory airbox anymore. The filter is a 12" S&B that's between the Bumper cover and wheelwell. The bottom tip is just above the side inlet. It pulls air from that area. Factory aerodynamics have changed since I now have 285's on the front. I may close off the exit through whe wheel well, as any air going through will just hit the tires now anyway.

No worries about water ingestion. It is never driven in the rain.
