I have a 2021 convertible that has 2 identical rips inside the top around where the rear windows are. It seems to be right where the fold is of the top and the rips are clearly from the top going up and down rubbing something. The car has under 14k miles on it and the warranty is almost up, but I've been going back and forth with the dealer trying to get this fixed but getting the run around.

Just wondering if I'm an anamoly or if this is an ongoing issue?

Mine is 2020 have not noticed any issues. I would escalate to Ford. Might be tough could be a "wear item"

Since it's not visible from front maybe just hey it patched at upholstery shop.

If you’re still under bumper-to-bumper, that should be covered. Outside may be a tough row to hoe. You could always go right to Ford and a request a warranty adjustment. I haven’t noticed this on mine, although I haven’t looked, and I do cycle the top a lot. I have recently found wear through the bead to the rubber strand above the driver’s window, about half way along. Passenger side is okay.

I noticed on my ‘16 right before I sold it in 2022, it had a small hole forming on the right side above the rear passenger window. Not sure if it’s in the same area as yours.

Push Ford to fix it..Be almost impossible for them to say you caused it.

After a long back and forth, the service manager called me and said he is ordering a new top. Hopefully it doesn't do the same thing in another 10k.

Congrats!

Don't leave service until you try it out with another person operating the top with you sitting in back seat checking for potential issues.

I believe they just sent the car to 3rd party.

I spoke too soon. Looked at passenger side again and am getting wear there as well. This is just a poor design on Ford’s part, as the profile of the seal where the bead sits actually has a sharp edge, and, of course, as the top closes the cloth covered bead slides along this edge, guaranteeing that the cloth is eventually rubbed through.

Ford Service Warranty are trained to be bullies knowing 98% of people are pushovers and walk away never to buy another Ford again.

Their warranty costs are killing bottom line so they want to avoid, defer as long as possible, or time out.

Once it's in the system need a copy then it won't time out as easily, from poor response time and remedy.

I knew going in the Ford experience would be similar to a.legacy truck stop bathroom haha...zero expectations.
