Handbrake

Has anyone noticed that the handbrake is really hard to disengage? I have use both hands and push really hard to put the button down. Is it just me or are other cars like this as well?

Pull upwards on the lever a bit as you are pressing the button.

Yes, you don't have to pull it up that far for it to work.

Gotta be honest - last week I was parking my car on a slight hill. Pulled up the handbrake to the usual spot about halfway. The brake was definitely engaged. I came outside 15 mins later and my car had move ten feet up and into a curb. I think it lurched very slowly. Thank god it didnt hit the car in front of me. Luckily, no scratches or scrapes. A very slight misalignment on the left side above the wheel well is the only problem I found, which I'm pretty bitter about, but it could be worse.

When I got in my car to pack it up I had to put the parking brake down, so I definitely pulled it up when parking. Ever since then I have been extra paranoid and have pulled the brake very far up when parking.

I guess this can serve as a PSA to all those parking on hills. I got off very lucky.

Yes I didn't put her into gear. My previous car had to be left in reverse in order to take the key out of the ignition. I suppose that after 5 years of driving, I just formed a habit of not having to put it into gear when parking. Totally my fault on this one :headbonk:

Always use chocks when leaving the car parked on an incline.

Try applying the brake before setting the park brake... ive seen that it sometimes allows the brake to pull higher though never had the problem of disengaging.... my drive way is fairly steep... always set it in 1st gear on inclines unless I am on a flat area or in the garage

Same for me too. If I pull it up one "click" I can disengage with one hand. More than that I gotta use two hands. I use my e brake often...not user friendly at all.

Well, leaving it in reverse would have worked as well....

What car forced you to have it in reverse to take the key out? I've never heard of that and am not sure that even makes sense - since there is nothing to stop you from changing gears once the key is out.

Also if on an incline you should angle the wheels so that if the car rolls it turns into the curb and doesn't go anywhere.
