Just had my car's paint corrected and Opti-Coat applied. This stuff is pretty amazing, along with a clear bra I don't think I'll be seeing any scratches from normal wear and tear.

Opti-Coat is a paint sealer that acts like a second harder clear coat, and also adds more gloss to the paint. It also repels dirt and water, so she'll stay cleaner for longer and water spots won't be an issue. Best part is Opti-Coat is thick and hard enough to take scratches, and then be polished away and re-applied if needed. Opti-Coat was also applied to the plastic surfaces, making them darker and shinier. Like Armor All, but it will last for years.

After a few weeks I'll post a brief review of Opti-Coat if anyone's interested.

Looks really good, Nick. The TY with the black PP wheels looks mean too.

Let us know what you think of the OptiCoat after you've had a chance to evaluate it.

Thanks all, and I'll be sure to let you all know in a few weeks.

Did you apply the opticoat first or the clear bra first?
I had the paint correction and Opti-Coat done first to be sure the paint looked uniform across the car before putting the bra on it. I'll have the bra installed this Tuesday, you need to give Opti-Coat 3 days or so to fully harden before applying anything to it.

I'm debating if I want to put Opti-Coat on the bra as well, mainly because the bra can stain and the sealer would help prevent that.

Just to be clear, Opti Coat isn't a scratch resistant coating. Great care should still be taken when washing/drying etc.

Doesn't it take 2 - 4 weeks to fully cure too? And it has to have 24 hours at or above 50 degrees right to initially set?

Exactly just like a normal clear coat. When I say it can take scratches, I mean buffing/removing the Opti-Coat and re-aplying it is way easier and cheaper than fixing the real clear coat.

It's cured and bonded to the surface within 24 hours. Initially it's hardness is on par with the OEM clear coat, but will harden as it dehydrates sometimes taking months in some areas.

I was told to allow 3 days before installing the clear bra, just to be safe.

Was it spray on, professionally applied, or DIY by hand?

Professionally applied.

The guy who did it is one of the few car detailers I've met who treat their work like an art form. Before applying the sealer he made the paint perfect. He had the car for 3 days, does all the work by himself, and does 1 car at a time.

From this point on he's the only person I'll trust with a buffer around my car.

Looks great, how much did it run you?
Thanks, it ran $1,300.

I did some shopping around and other places were in the $500-$800 range, but their definition of "perfect" was a joke. This was defiantly one of those times where "you get what you pay for."

Sounds like my detailer! The guy details cars that cost more than most folks houses and show cars. When I called him he was first surprised anyone wanted that sort of care on a sup 2015 $100k car and was willing to pay for his services. His opti-coat process runs about 800 if you've been seeing him regularly, 1500 if he's gotta correct other people's mistakes lol. And yeah one car at a time.

Looks great!

Did you have him coat your wheels and calipers?

My C7 has CQuartz Finest on it, with OptiCoat Pro on the wheels and calipers and it never ceases to amaze me even a year later how they repel brake dust and just water will remove almost all traces of dirt.

I did OptiCoat 2.0 on my wife's Jeep after I hit it with Megs 105/205 and my DA. It turned out great, but man it was some serious work to get all the panels perfect with the DA and compounds. The dealership had put a glaze on it to hide everything (it's dark blue) and as soon as I hit it with CarPro Reset and Eraser it pulled off glaze and I knew my work investment was tripled. :(

As soon as it warms up again (missed last week) here in the Bay Area I'm going to do my Mustang with CQuartz UK and probably hit the wheels with some of my remaining OC 2.0.
