Guns or cars?

I have a hard time dropping money into my car when I'm really a gun guy. I grew up with an outdoorsy dad and some traditional kinds of firearms, but I was in a military (non-US), did some of that kind of stuff, and I'm a bit of a gun nut. Nothing crazy, but a bit. My brother works full-time at the local gun shop.

So, the question is, would you rather drop $1,000 into a sweet gun you want (which will last forever guaranteed if you're not a dummy) or drop the money into car parts?

^ Ditto. I don't have anywhere near the collection z06psi has (of either), but since we can only drive one toy at a time, and pretty much only shoot one at a time, maybe there's a way to do both?

It'll be what I affectionately call the "truck gun". I want something rugged enough to throw in the console of the truck and not care that it gets beaten up and what not.

I thought I wanted a Springfield Armory (LOVE my 1911!) XD (not a huge fan of Glocks (this is gonna stir some shit I'm sure)). Then I found there is XD, XDM, XD Mod2 or some crap...And then I found out they're not made in the US.

So I think I'm gonna pick up an S&W M&P. I was originally going to pick up something in 40 cal, but my buddy made a good point...Since my 1911 is 45 and all my hand gun ammo is in 45, why not pick something up in 45....damn him! He makes good sense, but I already have a 45...do I want two?

He also brought up the point that I should be looking for a revolver...But I'm not quite convinced yet.

I've owned 4 springfields. A fullsize XD in 9mm and three XDMs (a 40/45/single stack 45). I don't hammer on them or drag them through the mud but I shoot a lot of cheap ammo and rarely clean them and they have never skipped a beat.

I wouldn't hesitate to own another but could use some variety if I ever buy another handgun.

An old Glock in 10mm or 40 cal. The plastic won't wear as bad as a steel framed 1911. However, the 1911 is fail safe in any condition. How about a cheaper RIA 1911? I have a M2 and love it. Great gun for under 500 bucks.

I'm also in the market for a new pistol as I'm returning from being stationed overseas (in a country that bans guns). I previously owned a Sig P239 in .40S&W. It was a great gun but I'm looking to step up to a .45 now. I love almost everything Sig makes but I'm also a fan of Kimber...just not their prices lol.

Any suggestions? BTW I also do not like Glocks or any hammerless design.

The first 1911 I ever shot was a Kimber. At the time I didn't know what I was shooting (other than 1911, 45, etc). It was purchased from a SWAT officer, and it wasn't "stock".

I wanted one...I had no idea what they actually cost.

Not much cheaper, but cheaper. And I'll probably send it back to SA to have them do to it what Kimber (and other manufacturers do) does to their 1911 for service models.

I just asked my brother, the local gun shop employee and bonafide gun nut, and has to say that the S&W SD9 is a great beater gun for the price. Similar to Glock in durability and ruggedness and can eat cheap ammo with little cleaning. Also you can get the variety in the .40 cal. Now me personally, I'd say stick with .45 but variety is the spice of life! Just don't go for some exotic expensive ammo like 357 SIG.

I have one good gun and one carry gun. Both .40 cal. STI Tactical SS and M&P Shield. Rest of my money goes into my Mustang XD Tho I would like a nice shotgun for the house.
