Hey All,

I was working on replacing the rivets on my GT350R that are shaved down. I ordered replacements from a Ford site and the picture below is what I got. Clearly they arent going to work as they are too small in diameter and wont be tall enough to really save the splitter. The part number I used which I got from this forum was the W705297-S417, but clearly not correct. I called the dealer and they were seeing on their end that the black rivets only come with the splitter as the kit and might not be sold seperately.

Has anyone ordered them from a certain site where they were the correct ones? Can I get a link? Or is there another option that works?

Could you put a washer under the head before you fit the rivet to spread the load ? You can get washers with a countersunk hole.

I believe the correct part number is: N808689-S417. At least those are the ones I used to replace my rivets and they are the same size. By the way the rivet is big and you will need a bigger rivet adapter. I had to buy one from macmaster.

It appears that a change was made in the Ford supply chain. Here's a picture of some of the same part number parts as shown in @DonPatr0L's picture that I bought from your online parts site last year:

They're black and they're the same diameter as the factory parts. The ones @DonPatr0L received are smaller diameter and natural aluminum color. Same part number, though.

I checked the shaft on mine and they're 1/4", so the parts that @dcalero put in his post might be a better choice than the "revised" ones.

Yeah Levittown confirmed Ford changed the part but kept the same part number. They are aligned with your thoughts on putting a washer under them. I see there are some others on Amazon that I may order just to take a look and share back here. They are 11/16 wide on the head so I think it could be fine.

So some final notes on this. Seems like Ford has moved away from the original part that we have. Which means if you have the original part spares, you have gold in your hands :)

I installed the new rivets on my splitter with a washer. It "works". I say "works", because the rivets dont really clamp as well as they should. It becomes more of a wedge rather than perfect hold/clamp. This is due to the thickness of the plastic that you are trying to secure and how much space the washer takes. Is it going to hold? Yeah I think so, but I think an alternative needs to be considered. There are some 1/4 rivets on amazon that have 11/16 heads that I think will get the job done better. I'll order some and give feedback on what I think.

So much conversation on rivets :)

Hi Mitch,

Are you still on this forum and this thread? I have a 2020 Shelby GT350 with I believe the larger rivets, the replacements from my local Ford dealership are not the right size. How can I get in touch with you. Can I call the dealership your work for and speak to you directly and give you my VIN??

Are you able to obtain the correct size rivets? I would like to buy some if you can.

Regards,

Rodney

Hi Rodney,

As mentioned above the original rivet has been designed and is slightly smaller. You can order it here and I will send you a code you can use as well.

Hi JAJ,

I hope your still on this forum.

I have a question / favor to ask. Would you be kind enough to provide me the following dimensions of the large black original rivet if you still have any:

1) Head Diameter (underside)
2) Shank Diameter
3) Length of Shank from underside of head to the actual end of the Shank only, not including the stem

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Rodney

I'm still here

Head diameter - 17.5mm (11/16" almost exactly)
Shank diameter - 6.1mm (the right size to fit in a 1/4" hole)
Shank length - 24mm (measured from the edge of the flange to the top - probably 1" nominal)

Thank you so much! I will take that information and search for an existing off the shelf rivet that matches as closely as possible.

Once I have the part number and where to source it from I will share in this thread!

Here are a couple of options that should work.

First is all aluminum. It has been used by Ford for years on the Mustangs for front bumper covers, fascias, air dams, etc. I used several of these on my GT350 front splitter when I was making repairs to it and couldn't find the "correct" rivets.

Split Type Rivet.webp

Ford Split Type Rivet

The second is steel. It has been used by Ford for years for door lock actuators, door handles on the Fox Bodies, and many other uses. The overall length is shorter and may not work in all locations on the front splitter. If I remember correctly I was able to use this style rivet on a few locations on my GT350 front splitter.

I did take the measurements JAJ provided and did some searching but could not find any that I really liked for dimensions, quantity or price. I did order a package of the first two of the rivets you suggested Wraithracing. I will let all via this thread know what I find out as to how they work out, as I do have some rivets that are quite worn on my 2020 GT 350 front splitter.
