No Mustang has EVER been designed/engineered to go head-to-head with the Corvette. Certainly not the GT500, as you seem to think.
Frankly, I don't think Ford cares to go head-to-head with that car and I, for one, see no upside to Ford in doing so.
But aren't you stepping into the corvette price range? And if corvette gives you better performance for the similar price then whats the catch?

Pill,

Very nice pics for the Z28 and gt350, thanks for sharing! My question is what will be Ford's response for the corvette? Back in the day the gt500 was the solution but chevy didn't have the zl1 or z28 camaro that can compete with the gt500!

Now we look at chevy and they have hipo camaro's that can even compete with the top dog of Ford! Camaro should be in the league of regular gt not gt350 or gt500! If you go that way then which Ford car is going to compete with the corvette z51, zo6, zo7 and zr1?

Ford is bringin back the Ford GT but to compete with super car segments! I feel like Ford has to improve the regular gt and its versions to face the camaro's, while keeping the gt 350 as a corvette competitor and the gt 500 as the z07 competitor! I don't see a reason to bring down the gt 350 in the camaro level! It should serve for more than that!

In addition to that, why not buy a Gen5 zo6 at 10,000 miles for $45,000 instead of a Z28 for $75,000? They both serve track purpose and share the same engine though corvette is lighter and faster around the track!
Unfortunately, this Corvette "Cap" will harm the Camaro one way or another. Ford released the next Gen first as well as their Motorsport replacement with Motorsport being priority it seems at the GT and 350 level.

The next move for Chevy is the Camaro, 1LE/Z51 type option/model and, to stop the GT350, an LT4 Camaro will be released. The LT4 will be the only option they have.

There will not be a Corvette targeted Mustang even though a C7 was used to benchmark in the GT350. There is just no real benefit other than Motorsports. The FGT will cover pretty much everything the Mustang doesn't. In the FIA, Ford is treating the Mustang like a Corvette. It has entered HALO status in Europe.

The GT500 was in the Corvette price range....It didn't compete with it. GT500 was faster in straight line performance stock vs. stock. Handling edge went to the Corvette of course. 2 seater vs. 4 seater...not in the same segment.

So the question comes to this, if i m looking for a track car what will stop me of buying a ZO7 rather than a gt350R? Assuming similar price range both $80,000 base price!

GT 500 was around $60 to $65 grand which was close to Zo6 price range! Or was it lower?

I don't expect a GT350R to be 80k base...no way, no how...but...I could be wrong.

The GT350R is going to be sold as a dedicated track day car...The 2015 Z06 can be used as a DD...Not saying the GT350R could not be but it is not made for that.

If all you are considering is the MSRP, then you have a valid point. But, as you well know, there are people who are not going to buy a GM product. In those cases, the highest performing Ford product will always win out against a GM offering, regardless of which one performs better. And then, as nice as the Corvette might be, there are people, like me, who are Mustang aficionados who have ZERO interest in a Corvette. I can appreciate what they bring to the table, but I have no desire to own one. They just don't appeal to me as a buyer.

At the end of the day, the Mustang's direct competitor is the Camaro. As such, when the Mustang outperforms the Camaro, the typical GM response is something akin to "well, the Mustang is nice, but if you compare the top performance car to Ford's top performance car, Ford loses!" or something equally pitiful/lame.

The Mustang is not and, I sincerely hope, never going to be a sportscar. To compare a four-passenger sport coupe to a sportscar is a fool's proposition, so why do people want to do it?

Well the z28 came out with $75,000 right? You could wait one year and get a zo7 for $80,000! The way they price these cars don't make sense lol!

MSRP... The Z07 is a $125,000 car new and I wouldn't buy a used Track Car.

The Z06 starts at $80,000. The Z06/Z07 went over $100,000 easy. Carbon package was expensive too.

The best competitive option would be the Base GT350 over the Base Z06. The LS7 had so many penalties and restrictions.

Does that mean you think we'll see a FIA GT-3/ Tudor GTD version soon? I would love to see that! The Ford GT is slated to run GTLM against the vette, etc., right?

Also, am I correct that the GT350's at the Ring back last year, that none of them were running the "R" Wing?

I think its too late, cause they have to supply the demand! Mustang will be a proper 4 seater sports car in the future! They already stepped inside the circle with the IRS and as Pill stated they are competing in autocross even against european competitors! Its no more saddle up but buckle up in a modern way my friend!

Z28 was about 78k or so.

The z28 and GT350R are niche market cars that appeal to a very, very small market of people. Dedicated track junkies that want to drive a factory produced race car that can perform. These are likely folks that has disposable income to spend on something like this. Again, this is my view on these cars.

I would buy one of these in a heartbeat but having 2 smaller children, my disposable income that would be spent on a R model was put into a boat that the whole family could enjoy and not just me racing around a track in a sweet car:D

I think so but I will throw this out there right now.... FIA GT3 is super serious now. It could be the reason for a FPC too... If Ford can get the platform into GT3 without modifications like last Gen, I will sh!t my pants.
