This picture is the biggest tell of the wheelbase. DOT standards have guardrail posts every 6' 3". A rough look seems to tell me it is 1.5 post lengths putting it at 112.5...so the wheelbase should be 112.

Edit: what is the ATS wheelbase? I'm just saying my observations too, I really don't know anything about car dynamics and weights so please don't blast me for posting a simple minded observation.

ATS is 109. CTS is 114.8. Current Camaro is 112.x and I suspect it will be the same on Alpha. CTS lost several hundred pounds via the platform switch.

Yeah, I'd say its pretty close to the 5th Gen and Impala. In this day and age, a 112 inch wheelbase is a full size vehicle. The Impala, Fusion and Taurus all have a 112 inch wheelbase. Another fat Camaro, this time with puckered butt cheeks.

I'll take Car And Driver's guess over yours..

"Comparing the wheelbases of the Camaro prototype and the Impala—that specific image suffers less perspective distortion—reveals the test mule to have a roughly 109.32-inch wheelbase."

After looking up weights on the caddy website between the two, I don't see why the camaro couldn't be roundabout the 'stangs weight...just wild guessing of course though

Like all other new vehicles, it will be difficult for them to match or beat the current Camaro's 3920lbs.

If they couldn't lighten the Corvette with an all Aluminum, Hydroformed Space frame, they will be helpless with an old school Unibody.

Its a big car... Look at the rear overhang where the roof meets the trunk. You mean to tell me they may keep a 190 inch overall length but reduce the wheelbase? That is not optimal...

Its mainly interior dimensions that require a larger wheelbase. A sports car or sports coupe shouldn't be too far over 107 inches. Anything larger has an identity issue. You are not a sport anything being that big. Oh well, there is still a musclecar market. They will enjoy not directly competing with the Mustang.

I see huge A-Pillars, looks like the structure is still thick.

Why are you guys so hard on thePill. It's his opinions and estimates...let him say what he wants...for most of us this is America. The whole point of freedom is saying what you want.

If he's wrong in the end so be it. Stop beating the dead horse he will still give his opinions and thoughts.

Hard on him? His opinions are very highly affected by his bias.

His choice of talking about weight is wrong now just like when he was talking about the Fusion and new Mustang.

The vette was not overweight, the 5th generation Camaro is. Big difference.

I find it funny that you're talking about the size of anything on the car besides wheelbase. You have NO idea what the size of anything is due to all the the padding. Let me know when you see the pillars or anything else uncovered.

If you want nothing but joyful happy opinions about the camaro you can go to Camaro5.com.....

Are you ordering a Mustang?

You understand that no matter how much you argue with him his opinion will be the same....

I'd prefer unbiased opinions, not joyful. No, I'm not ordering the Mustang. I'll be driving it in a couple months and I'm sure I'll like it, but I'm not buying anything now or until I get my hands on the Camaro. Who knows, I may end up with a Challenger. I love the way they look and it's an amazing highway cruiser. I probably won't be taking the car I buy to a track with turns.

you came to a Mustang site looking for unbiased opinions? Really? You need to see someone about those delusions of yours!

Nothing delusional. I didn't come here looking for any opinions about cars that we know nothing about and definitely none about the Camaro. I'm just stating that I'd prefer unbiased views no matter what car I'm talking about.. I just don't like it when people are fanboys and constantly knock on different brands. Anyway, I visit all three of the forums and am on Motor Trend daily so it's not like I hang out here all day. Just want to see what's going on in the Mustang world just like I care about Challengers and Camaros. I like cars. Enjoy.

Why do I hear the mortal combat song in my head right now?

I feel 6g should host a celebrity death match type event where we make caricatures of different people on the forum and have them battle it out...:-D

thePill is the wrong source for unbiased speculation. That said, Camaro5 is probably 10 times worse. There's really no difference is there? I don't know why there's so much thePill hate...

For some reason, people over on C5 have an issue with opinion. They read what I post and literally go insane thinking my opinion is spreading. As if people can't think and Google for themselves. Unless speculation gets too close to fact, then they change the subject or disappear. I think I have a pretty decent track record on weights, lap times and concepts. If the speculation I provide so happens to put Chevy under the gun, its not being biased... The Camaro is heavy, the z28 is expensive and not class compliant , ZL1 weighed what I said it would, its a pig that heatsoaks and couldn't dominate the GT500 at the track. I said sales would get to Chally levels around the 3rd year and need a refresh. Fenwick said it would never happen... The Camaro went to 5000 sales and then came a refresh. That's not biased...

That just happened...

The z28 is no different and I doubt the 6th Gen is going to be much different either. A wheelbase and car that large cannot be serious. The Camaro finally has an identity some people really like. I feel they are a slave to that basic shape and will be for the remainder of its life. If that's what it does well, I say let them do it.
