I have not heard anyone talk about it but if you look behind the front grill you can see the actual opening for the radiator. The opening is smaller than the front of the car, which I am sure is for aero and increased grip. What no one has brought up though is the opening is different between the R and non R cars which looks to be a smaller opening on the R version. Would that mean they actually have a really big radiator and you could tape off some for more aero? I haven't compared the opening on the race cars though. Sorry on my phone, can't attach a pic.

It's been talked about a few times and last I heard, we didn't know exactly why. The thinking is along the same line as yours - aero.

One of the guys on another forum talked to the engineers recently. It's definitely for aero.

The 'R' does not have a bigger radiator.
