I have a B&O 12 speaker system, and considering going 3-way active in the front. Plan not to use rear speakers and will be keeping (for now) Pioneer TS-A250D4 sub in the stock enclosure. What are my options for the speaker set? I read a lot of positive reviews about Focal Flax, do they fit wuthout modifications to the door card? Any other options I should look into?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a budget? Depending on price I’d suggest JL Audio C7 or C6, Focal, or Hertz MPK163.3. I have the JL C7s in my GT500 and I’m doing the Hertz in my EcoBoost convertible just to try a different brand.

Yes. There is a company in that sell speaker brackets so the focal flax woofer amd mid range will fit behind the door panel. Try Soundsgoodstereo in Tenn.

The only set I recommended that doesn’t fall under that budget is the JL C7 series. All the other ones do. The Hertz set I got from a company in Germany called Valicar Stuttgart. They sell on eBay and their prices are nearly half of what Crutchfield charges. Hertz is made in Germany which jacks up the price in US markets. I got my three way set for under $600.

And before someone chimes in with “eBay is full of knockoffs”…yes that can be true if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Valicar is a legitimate Hertz dealer.

And the adapters from sounds good stereo fit many speakers. I have them on my JL C7s and they fit the Hertz Mille Pro and Focals too.

@Evolvd, thank you for the details! Are the adapters needed only for 6 1/2 speakers?

There is a shop called Custom Sounds in states.

Focal, Hertz, and JL audio is on display and able to be demoed to see which you like the most. Their pricing is reasonable.

I purchase all my audio from them for over 15 years. Everything is negotiable.

All JL Audio has increased in pricing this year.

I am in NJ, so Custom Sounds won't work for me. l'll rely on a local installer to get it done.

No you’ll want the 3.5 adapters as well. It’s well worth getting the full kit as they come with the wiring plug adapters as well as gasket tape. They also have tweeter adapters but depending on the size of the tweeter you may or may not need them. My JL C7 tweets are press fit into the stock location which I slightly trimmed for a snug fit.

@Evolvd Do you have the Ebay link to where you got your Hertz set from? I am looking at those as well. It is between them and a set from Morel.

Thanks for letting mw know! Once I'm discussing all the details with the shop, good to have the info handy to avoid any delays for ordering/making parts.

Actually just found them and ordered the last set they had.
I’m sorry I completely missed your post. Glad you were able to snag a set. They are great with shipping too, I got my set within a week of ordering.

hertz is made in china........but the company is from Italy not Germany (im a hertz dealer) . While it is much cheaper to trans ship items from the European market you are kinda stuck with Valicar warranting them as Hertz wont do it. Its a gamble, im not here to say if its a good or bad gamble but its there.

The well known German company here in the states is Helix/Brax. Then you have Focal and BLAM which are both from France. There are many more but those are the most recognizable to people who aren't deep into the audio community.

On another note nice that Valicar got your speakers to you in a timely manner, they took 3 months to get my metal pods to me from their ebay store. Valicar, really isnt even a retail space....its ran out of someones house lol
