I'm very lucky to have a former employee doing work on the side. He has a Hunter Revolution touch less tire machine and road force balancer. Just did my wheels and my buddies. Very professional and matched the weights to wheel. The way it should be done. He is a mustang guy too.

So funny thing about the shop that mounted and balanced the wheels. The manager and the dedicated wheel/tire tech talked up their new machine that uses all plastic bumpers to make sure nothing gets scratched, there is no chance any damage will be done, etc etc. Talked up how gorgeous the rims were and how they'll look amazing on the mustang. Then using silver weights. Disappointment is high. I called them this morning after I noticed the silver, talked to the same manager I talked to last Saturday and told him that they had used silver weights instead of black weights on the wheels and asked if there was anything they could do about replacing them? Well we don't carry black weights. Anything else I can do for you today. So that's that. I doubt they care if they lost one persons business.

Called 3 more shops, all of which told me they don't carry black weights. Except for the last shop, where a tech answered the phone and told me, we don't carry them, but we can just run to autozone to grab the ones we need in black. Awesome, I can drop them off in 30. Loaded the wheels back in the truck again, off to the shop. Go inside and the manager tells me, yeah we only carry silver weights. Told him that the person I just talked to said you guys could just run to autozone to grab black ones for them. Oh boy was he pissed off when I told him that. He literally just walked out into the shop while I was mid sentence and asked than yelled at the tech that told me that. I think I found a tech that actually cares. Going tomorrow to pickup the wheels.

I guess I'm just astonished that shops don't carry these, and that it'd be such a problem for a shop just to grab them. Also the manager at the last shop to walk out into the shop and yell at the tech that told me that, unbelievable. I may grab a $20 and throw it to the tech that told me that just as a thank you. I'm positive that the manager made him drive to autozone to grab the weights as a punishment.

Seems like the nail polish method is faster and easier than returning to the shop.

Also, weights are no longer lead but zinc steel. So yeah, being right down near the road they will eventually rust.

I even painted the silver weights with my silver rims touch up paint just to prevent rust.

That was one of my ideas with just painting them, but they are in-between the spokes of the wheels where it meets the barrel. So they are super obvious on the wheels.

I'm with the paint it up crowd.

Plastidip is perfect for this IMO.

Lucky!

It's hard enough to find a shop that wont scratch up a wheel with wide low profile tires,

Then you want someone who will do the entire optimal Road Force procedure (not the cost/time saver procedure) with wide low profile tires.

Yeah I would have painted them 2 especially if everything else was good. Going to another shop just exposes you to other issues in my opinion and the stress of that just isn't worth it.

Yeah that was an after thought to be honest. I was primarily pissed about the silvers. But that was also my fault for me thinking they would use black weights. I never asked so it's on me. Cost me another 45$ to have a rebalance with the black weights. But i do have to say I am happy I had the weights replaced and the shop didn't scratch anything. But now I've gotta post a question about alignment so to another thread I go.

After reading this whole thread, I have to ask, where are the pictures of the black wheels mounted on your car!
