Gear oil smell after pulls?

When I stomp on it, not all the time, I get a skunky almost burnt gear oil smell. Lasts about a min and then goes away. I've inspected underneath the car, can't find any sign of leaking fluid, new or old. Put light into the 5 little slots on the 82MT bellhousing and can't see any sign of leaks, nothing from the output shaft of the trans, nothing from the input on the diff. The trans vent tube little breather check valve thing appears clean (the only thing I can see, can't see where the vent tube pushes into the trans, but I felt around and there's no leaks that I can detect).
Anyone else run into this, any ideas?
