Seems to me a hybrid is the most practical way to have an EV......
True. Best comprise. I'm ordering a 23 Maverick Hybrid in August when the order banks open up.
42 mpg city where 99% of my driving is city, which is pretty good.

If the hybrid drive system in the Maverick is anything like the one in the Fusion (and I see no reason why it shouldn't be), then I'm sure you'll love it.
I loved my hybrid Mondeo. Extremely smooth, silent, easy to drive, the power is always there when you need it, great mileage. Boring, for sure, but otherwise great.

The Hybrid can actually run 0-60 in 7.6 seconds which while not great by today's standards, but is respectable. That's actually as quick as a 1968 Corvette 327, 99 Dakota R/T, and a 1994 Taurus SHO. All ran 7.6 0-60. Not bad at all for a hybrid commuter crew cab truck that gets 42MPG!

Look man When it says zero miles to empty, it doesn’t actually mean zero miles to empty. There is some extra.

True, but if they ran the car until it stopped, and connected a small portable battery they might run out again. People are stupid. 23 years in towing have shown me that.

I'll give you that they have changed, but I don't agree that they have to any significant degree.
Charging a Tesla five years ago took exactly as much time is it does today. The range of a fully charged EV has increased a bit, due to bigger batteries and better power management, but still not enough to make a major difference.
And despite this limitation as you describe it Tesla sales are booming and increasing year on year, so it can't be that much of a problem can it?

Again I go back to driving an EV as an EV not as an ICE. Most people now do not have problems with range if you top up as I suggested.

Incidentally AVERAGING 85mph on any motorway in the world is going some. Never mind whether it is exceeding the speed limit. To average 85mph on Romanian motorways means long periods at 90mph or more which is well over the speed limit and very little traffic in the way! Far from your average driver!

As many have found out over the past eight years that not exactly true in the S550. When you hit zero miles you’re running on fumes.

In Romania I don't care about speed limits. In Hungary and Austria I've been lucky to drive at times when there was very little traffic (well, luck and some planning), plus I exceeded the speed limit a bit, because in Hungary there's some leeway, and in Austria I can spot speed traps, and if I fail to spot one I can afford the fine. Besides, some Austrian motorways have a 140 km/h limit.
I did Timișoara-Munich, about 1000 km, in ten hours, including breaks and border crossings. Fourty minutes lost when crossing the border into Hungary, thirty minutes lunch break, plus one other fill-up and toilet break.
Who said I was the average driver? 😁

So the long and short of that is 85mph average is not realistic going back to the original post!

1000km (600 miles) in 10 hours is an average of 60mph, possibly 70mph average with breaks factored in, really nothing exceptional about that average other than 10 hours driving without significant rest is considered reckless by professional (lorry) drivers

Be aware that boasting about breaking speed limits can get you in trouble in many countries in Europe. A UK driver was recently convicted of speeding and reckless driving based on a video he posted of himself.

I'm sure the Romanian authorities will be delighted about your respect for the laws :cwl:

How many masks are you wearing today, Gregs24? Who are you, the internet speeding police? Sounds like a pretty prestigious position.

Yeah, if you want to split hairs.
If we subtract the interruptions we get 1000 km in a bit less than nine hours. That's an average of 70 mph. And that's the average over the entire distance, which includes Bavaria, where the speed was considerably lower due to heavier traffic, it includes the border crossing from Hungary into Austria, where traffic slows down to a crawl due to the Austrian police looking for illegal immigrants, etc. That makes the average over other segments of the journey higher. In some parts of the journey I did do 170 miles in two hours. I never said I can do it continuously, all day long.
I don't care what lorry drivers think. There was nothing reckless about it. I got out of the car in Munich as fresh as I had been at the start. Driving a Mondeo isn't exactly the same as driving a lorry.
Last Friday I drove from Bucharest to the seaside. While the average over the entire journey was really nothing to write home about, because the traffic was horrendous both before reaching the motorway and from the motorway to my destination, on the motorway itself I did 130 miles in 1.5 hours. It was easy. I didn't even break a sweat. And that was with my wife's Kuga. Had I been in the Mustang I would have done even better.

Not here. I can say whatever I want. It has no legal value.
I can say I killed ten people and buried them in my back yard.
Now, taking a video of me burying ten bodies and posting it on the internet would surely draw their attention and cause an investigation, which might get me in trouble if it proved to be true. But talking about it is perfectly fine.

I'm sure the Romanian authorities will be delighted about your respect for the laws :cwl:
I can assure you that the Romanian authorities don't care two hoots about it. Breaking speed limits is a minor offence. If they catch me, I pay the fine, and everybody is happy. The last time they caught me, the cop complimented me on the car and told me I could speed up because there were going to be no more speed traps from that point on. Cops are humans, too. They drive, too, and they break speed limits, too. And they like a nice car as much as the next guy.

Yeah, if you want to split hairs.
I wasn't the one making the claim about average speeds, merely pointing out how unlikely your claim was.

I'm sure lorry drivers used to think they were fresh as a daisy after 10 hours on the road, before they fell asleep and piled into a parked car. Tachographs were introduced for very good reasons. The vehicle you drive has nothing to do with human performance.

Anyway drifted well off topic so probably left for another thread somewhere

No, I don't think they felt fresh as a daisy. I bet they felt tired and drowsy, but thought they might just get away with it.
