I wouldn't, it's not safe, even though I know some have. Why do you need to remove it?Thanks buddy, if the strut is still in the car can this nut be safely removed without having to compress the spring?
It's worked loose and the strut is knocking, so my thinking was to replace it with a new nyloc nut.I wouldn't, it's not safe, even though I know some have. Why do you need to remove it?
Just not a good idea. Chances of anything happening is very low but it's not a good idea to leave that under compression without something. You can probably just tighten it rather than replace it. I had to do that within a couple months of my first suspension install and it remained tight for 2.5 years. It's worked loose and the strut is knocking, so my thinking was to replace it with a new nyloc nut.
I can see why you shouldn't remove that nut without a spring compressor when the strut is out of the car but when it's still in the car the spring is compressed, I can tell there isn't any load on it as I can nearly turn it with my fingers.
